This type of bet is a conditional bet, as it includes Up and Down bets within it. There are four selections in the bet, and this adds up to 23 bets that are played. It can also be viewed as a Yankee bet with Up and Down bets added to it. Six Up and Down bets are included in the Flag bet, and due to the fact that an Up and Down bet contains singles, this means that only one out of four selections has to win in order to generate a return for the bettor.

Each of the bets within a Flag bet requires a unit stake to be played against it. This is an appealing bet for punters, as a small stake can result in some sizeable returns. The reason for this outcome is that the wager provides the bettor with many variations of bet types, as well as a lot of coverage. Not only are there six Up and Down bets, there is one four fold acca, four trebles and six doubles. No direct win singles are involved, as these only come from the Up and Down bets.

To describe an Up and Down bet in more detail, this kind of wager involves the creation of two bets from two selections. If there is a large enough return from the winner of the first leg of either of the bets, then the second leg of the wager comes into play. However, if there is a loss, the second leg would be lost, along with the entire second bet. Due to the complexity of this kind of bet, plus the others involved in a Flag bet, many experts and bookies recommend that punters use a Flag bet calculator to get to grips with what the bet involves, play with different stakes and odds and see which way of playing is best for them.

To get started with a Flag bet, the odds from the multiple bets are accumulated – in other words, all of the odds are multiplied together. So for a treble, each of the odds from the first section would get multiplied by the second, and that would then in turn be multiplied by the third leg. This allows punters to select shorter-odd options which are stronger, yet still have a chance of returns which would end up larger than if the selections were played as singles for the same stake amount.

Some people will want to take the Flag bet further and create a Goliath Flag bet. This involves eight selections with 247 individual bets in total. Every possible variation of Up and Down bets that can be created from the eight selections are put together, which creates 303 bets in a complete Goliath Flag bet. This includes 20 Up and Down bets, with two stakes each. As well as the Up and Down bets, there would also be 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 four folds, 28 six folds, 8 seven folds and 1 eight fold accumulator.

To use a Flag bet calculator, enter your chosen stake and ensure the correct type of bet is selected. Then, choose the set options, such as Easy Way, Dead Heat, Decimal Odds or Rule 4. Finally, enter the betting odds and desired statuses to see what your potential stake, return and profit would be.
