What does Combination Bet mean within Betting?
A combination bet is a type of chance that is often placed with the aim of reducing risk. It has similarities to an accumulator bet, where with both of these types of bets the punter will bet on the outcome of a number of events simultaneously, but they are also vital differences.

What is a Combination Bet?
Combination betting can give the punter a more significant chance of success. A more substantial gain can be made depending on the number of correct predictions.
Accumulator bettors may wager on two, three, four, five or more fixtures, known as ‘doubles’, ‘trebles’, ‘four-folds’ and ‘five-folds’, respectively. A combination bettor may place a much more complex bet. Such as combining doubles, trebles, four-folds etc. together as a group. Meaning they are spreading their stake around to make a win more likely than with an accumulator. It makes for a more enticing experience than placing a conventional bet on just the one event, as the excitement only lasts longer.
A combination bettor can decide on whatever combination of four-folds, six-folds, trebles, doubles, etc. that they like, making the experience more exciting and involved. The simplest of these is called a Trixie. This combines four bets (a treble and three doubles) on three selections in different events.
Combination Bet Example
With big fixture lists every weekend, a punter would be well advised to use a combination bet with a total stake of £12 instead of picking one team to win on a £12 stake. No matter what the odds are, all is lost if the selection fails to win. This would make for a very short afternoon of gambling.
The punter can choose to place £4 wagers on selected teams to win, for a total stake of £12. This would be made up of three singles. As long as at least one of the selections is victorious at odds of 3/1 or higher, the bet will pay a profit. Similarly, two winners at average odds of above 2/3 would also ensure a profit. Additionally, if all three win, it will be a happy day of betting indeed.
So bettors can choose four teams to place bets on for the day, and as long as two wins it will be treated like a double if three teams win it will turn into a treble, and so on. The drawback, of course, is that the possibility of winning big is reduced when the bets are spread around in this way. Unless several selections are correct, only a small profit is returned.
Advantages of making a Combination Bet
This is one of the best ways to bet on horse racing due to the event of horses winning at price of 3/1 being much more likely than it is in football. However, using this betting in football is good should you be happy to put down a more substantial amount of money, because as mentioned previously should two, three or four teams win you will be making an excellent amount of money. It is a much safer alternative than putting on an accumulator since the accumulator is lost if just one team loses, something that isn’t the case with combination bets.
