What is a Double Chance bet?

A double chance bet is a single bet which is made up of two different outcomes of a potential three. The different forms of double chance bet you can make are as follows:

  • Home Win or Draw
  • Away Win or Draw
  • Home Win or Away Win (also known as No Draw)

The odds you’ll receive on a Home Win or Draw for example will be lower than if you were to bet on a straight home win or a straight draw however your chances of winning are increased.

Double Chance Example

To demonstrate exactly what a double chance bet is we are going to use two football teams as an example, Bolton and Birmingham.

The first double chance bet that you could make on this match would be Birmingham to Win or Draw and secondly it would be for Bolton to Win or Draw.

The best example of using a double chance bet is for a fixture such as Huddersfield Town vs Wolverhampton Wanderers. This is due to the poor form of the home side, and the expectancy for the away side to win within the odds that are offered (17/10). Therefore, a smart bet would be to place a bet of Huddersfield to Win or Draw. Here you will find general odds of 1/1. These are very short odds but the chance of winning money is increased.

Advantages of making a Double Chance Bet

The main single advantage of placing a double chance bet as opposed to a betting on a single outcome is that your chances of winning are heavily increased and this also adds a layer of security onto your bet. This is especially good value when one the big six teams, such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur play against a team towards the bottom of the league. Mainly because this would present a good profit should there be a shock result. The best time to place a bet like this would be after a big side have played in Europe, as their standards typically drop.

These double chance bets can also be placed into singles, doubles, trebles, four folds or accumulators as well as betting permutations. This means that even though the odds are decreased for a single selection, 5 double chance bets in a five-fold accumulator can still provide a decent return on your stake as well as still retaining that layer of security and insurance on your bet.
