Draw No Bet

What does a Draw No Bet mean in betting?

The draw no bet market is commonly used when betting on football fixtures. If a punter backs a specific team in the draw no bet market, his bet will win if his team emerge victoriously. However, the full stake will be returned to the gambler should the match end in a draw. Should the other team win, then the bet is lost.

What is the Draw No Bet market?

The amount that you will get back from this market isn’t going to match the returns that you will expect to see from the general outcome match market. These options cover the punter from a possible surprise result. A real example of prices that you can plan to see for a draw no bet market is Manchester United to beat Liverpool at 11/10. Should you go for the opposite choice, the Reds are priced at 4/6. However should you bet one of the teams with the draw outcome still on the table, United are priced at 2/1, and Liverpool at 13/10.

This is just one example of where you can see the drop in odds from betting within this market. It all comes down to how you feel the match will end, should you feel that United are not going to lose the fixture then it is an excellent market to bet on. The profit margins would also be down because should you place the bet on United on the match result market, a £10 bet will see you return £30. However, should you place the bet on the draw no bet market, you would win £21 from the same amount of stake. Resulting in a £9 difference, so it really is how much you are willing to risk.

Draw No Bet Example

Crystal Palace plays host to title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur, and you decide to place a £25 bet on Spurs Draw no bet. The game ends 1-1, and while your choice is not a winning one, you get the full £25 stake refunded. Had you merely bet on away win, you would have lost the entire stake.

There could be a more effective way to select your option in this form of betting.

An excellent example of this is a team going into a fixture that they would be expected to win. However, their opponents are a team with an excellent defensive record, or possibly have a good recent history against the team they are playing. Such as West Ham vs Arsenal, or West Brom vs Liverpool. This would typically see a top-six club face off against a team towards the bottom of the table. Then for a sacrifice in some odds, it is worthwhile to take the insurance choice.

Advantages of placing a Draw No Bet

The best way to use this market is by considering all the options prior to placing your bet. Remember that in a draw no bet wager you are spreading your stake over the win and the draw, so it is effectively a double chance bet. Many sporting events end up finishing in a draw, meaning that it is a good way for punters to ensure that valuable money isn’t lost.
