Wembley

Punter's Pick

This game is a difficult one to pick against two evenly matched teams. Both are missing key players, with Spurs still missing Alli and Kane and Dortmund so heavily reliant on Marco Reus. Given Dortmund’s recent blips and Spurs still maintaining their charge in the Premier League, Pochettino may look to go on the offensive and really make use of home advantage.

With the two victories of last season still fresh in their minds, we feel that Spurs will go on to win this game. Bet365 are offering above evens at 27/20 for a Spurs result. An over 2.5 goals market at 4/5 also looks generous given the attacking flair of both teams and this could tie in well with over 10 corners at 13/10 as a potential double.

Tottenham welcome German leaders Borussia Dortmund to Wembley, in a tie which promises fans an attacking game between two exciting teams.

In the group stages, Spurs had Lucas Moura to thank after the Brazilian scored a dramatic 85th minute equaliser in the Nou Camp to get Tottenham the draw they required to progress. It showed the improvements Spurs have made in Europe as they came out of a group which featured Inter Milan and PSV Eindhoven, with late goals becoming their trademark in an increasingly competitive season.

Things were more straightforward for the Germans, as they won their group on goal difference against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, which featured an impressive 4-0 home win against the same opponents. However Dortmund have had a blip of late having played out three consecutive draws in the league and cup to leave them just five points ahead of arch rivals Bayern Munich in the league. What has been concerning is that they have shipped three goals in each of their last two games, with the team squandering a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Hoffenheim.

In team news, Spurs continue to sweat on the fitness of key duo Dele Alli and Harry Kane. But reports are suggesting that both could be out until March, which is likely to see Heung-Min Son either lead the line up front, or play in behind target man Fernando Llorente. Eric Dier could return to the team having missed the weekend game with a virus. Alderweireld started the last game on the bench and it remains to be seen whether Pochettino brings the Belgian back in to the centre and shifts his compatriot Vertonghen to left back, or persists with Danny Rose.

Dortmund will be desperate to see club icon Marco Reus return to action, however their captain has been ruled out for this fixture with a thigh injury. Reus has been in great form this season scoring 13 goals in the league which has helped propel them to the top of the Bundesliga. The old partnership with Mario Gotze seemed to have been working well until the injury, after which Dortmund have struggled to maintain the consistency that they have shown earlier in the season. Exciting prospect, Jadon Sancho, is likely to fill in for the missing Reus to ensure the Germans maintain their attacking impetus at Wembley.

In recent head to heads, Spurs have the advantage having beaten their opponents in both games last season. An amazing game at Wembley saw three goals in the first 15 minutes as Spurs took a 2-1 lead, with Harry Kane putting the game beyond doubt with a third in the 60th minute. In the reverse fixture, Aubameyang had helped Dortmund get a lead, only for Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son to turn things around and secure a famous victory at Signal Iduna Park.
