Punter's Pick

Bristol City to win or force a draw over 90 minutes is 15/4, and the tie could easily end up going the way of the home side in normal time. Alternatively City can also be backed to win with the cushion of a +1 handicap at 10/11, also with Bet365. Andreas Weimann if passed fit can haunt his former side by scoring anytime at 9/2 with Betfair.

In form Championship side Bristol City take on Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers, in a tricky looking clash for the top flight team.

City flying in the Championship

Bristol City come into this clash not only as the form team in the Championship but also in the country, having racked up seven successive wins to go alongside two FA Cup successes. They will certainly fancy adding a Premier League scalp to extend their winning run to ten games, and Wolves will be wary and try to quell any early surge from the home side before trying to impose their own brand of football on them.

City’s sparking form has seen them propel themselves in the playoff places, despite a modest haul of just 40 goals in 31 league games so far this season. Top scorer in all competitions is Famara Diedhiou with just nine goals. The Robins’ success has been based around a tight defence, with just 30 goals conceded all season, a total only bettered by Middlesbrough in the Championship.

Wolves continue to fly high in the Premier League

City’s opponents come into this tie off the back of a fine sequence of results that has helped push them back into the top seven in the Premier League. Three wins and a draw in their last four league games has seen them open up a two point lead over eighth placed Watford, as the race to finish the highest placed side outside of the ‘Top Six’ hots up. With impressive victories against Everton and West Ham United in that sequence, Wolves will feel that they overcome their in-form hosts and progress to Round Six.
Team News

Bristol City could be without former Wolves player Andreas Weimann, who came off in the midweek win over QPR with a back spasm. The Austrian memorably scored for Wolves in a famous cup victory against Liverpool, and losing the attacker would be a big blow for manager Lee Johnson as they aim to make it a perfect ten in league and cup games.

Wolves have no new injuries to report, but John Ruddy has played in all Wolves’ FA Cup games this season. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo will have to decide whether the veteran replaces Rui Patricio in goal.

City’s form against top flight teams leaves tie finely balanced

The Robins have an impressive four wins in their last five games against teams from the Premier League, which will give Wolves plenty of food for thought. Their only defeat in those five games came courtesy of a 96th strike by Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne in the EFL Cup last season, so the sequence could have been even better. Wolves will know they are in for a tough afternoon, and it would be no surprise if one goal either way was enough to settle the tie.
