Stamford Bridge

Punter's Pick

Therefore an under 2.5 goals with Bet365 at evens might be a good pick, especially at the start as you have the opportunity to be able to cash out if the game remains goalless after 25 minutes or so. A 4/6 for both teams to score also looks tempting with the same provider and we feel that these are solid picks given the recent results of both teams.

Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge for a blockbuster game in the FA Cup. This game is als much a test of both team’s mental strength as it is their skill on the pitch, with Chelsea being hammered 6-0 by Manchester City last week and Manchester United being outclassed by PSG in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first defeat since taking over. Which manager will be able to rally their troops and get the reaction required for victory?

United went an amazing 11 games without defeat since Solskjaer took the reins, but the Champions League defeat to PSG really exposed the gulf in class between United and some of Europe’s elite. United were outplayed for large periods of the game at home and Solskjaer must now raise his players against a top four team in their quest for silverware this season.

Sarri on the other hand has had a real turbulent few weeks, with questions over the Italian’s future constantly under the microscope. From openly questioning the motivation of his players to recently commenting on his lack of correspondence with owner Abramovic, the team’s implosion was showcased with a 6-0 humbling at champions City. The team did manage a 2-1 away victory against Malmo in the Europa League, to bring some much needed confidence around the camp, but the performance against City will have Sarri fearing a similar performance.

In team news, United will be without Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial who will both be out for at least a fortnight. Full back Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia also remain sidelined. Solskjaer could bring Marcos Rojo and start with Romelu Lukaku, who has started more games on the bench in recent times.

Chelsea will look to assess the fitness of Ruben Loftus-Cheek as he missed the game against Malmo to assess his fitness. Marcos Alonso was rested and is likely to return for this fixture.

The game earlier in the season finished 2-2, with united on course for an away victory, only for Ross Barkley to snatch a 90th minute equaliser to gain Chelsea a share of the spoils. However, United’s form and performances have been very good in recent times and they will go in to the game with more confidence. A defeat to PSG was nothing to be ashamed of and was their first defeat in 12 games. However Chelsea have lost four out of their last nine games in all competitions and will be mentally scarred after their defeat at City.

With the quality at both teams’ disposal, it is difficult to pick an outright winner. The strength of the teams that both managers put out will be interesting and only adds to to the uncertainty of which way this game will go. As a knockout game, both managers will most likely be more conservative and ensure they close the spaces around midfield in order to get a foothold in the game.
