Liberty Stadium

Punter's Pick

Both sides are attack minded and have quality upfront, so both teams to score at 4/6 with Bet365 looks appealing, with over 2.5 goals at 17/20 also a strong possibility, also with Bet365. Betfair have Brentford to progress at 10/11, which also includes via extra time or a penalty shootout.

Championship sides Swansea City and Brentford go head to head on Sunday at the Liberty Stadium, with a place in the FA Cup Quarter Finals and a step closer to Wembley the prize awaiting both teams.

Mid table mediocrity could turn in a trip to Wembley?

Both sides have not exactly been setting the world alight in the Championship, and have little prospect of pushing for a playoff spot this season. Swansea currently sit in thirteenth position, seven points outside the last playoff spot, and barring a late surge are likely to staying in the Championship.

Their opponents Brentford are faring marginally worse, currently in seventeenth position, four points behind the Swans. Early season optimism that they could push for promotion quickly evaporated, particularly with highly rated ex-manager Dean Smith moving on to Aston Villa during the current campaign. The change in management coincided with a worrying run of form, but a recent upturn in results means the Bees should be safe in the Championship, currently a healthy eleven points clear of the relegation spots.

Recent form slightly favours Brentford

With just four points separating the two teams in the league, this on paper looks to be a really close encounter with no clear favourite. Brentford will however point to their recent form and feel they have the slight edge. With four wins in their last five league games, they go into this cup tie with decent momentum and confidence behind them. Of even greater satisfaction will be they beat Dean Smith’s Aston Villa 1-0 on Wednesday, an ideal confidence builder as they go into this game.

Swansea on the other hand, have been slightly more patchy in their recent form. With just one win in their last four games, their hopes for a play off push are quickly fading away. Manager Graham Potter may already be plotting how to find a route back to the Premier League next season, but a long run in the FA Cup would be a welcome boost both financially and for the fans.

McBurnie v Maupay

The match pits together two of the top strikers in the Championship, as Oli McBurnie (fitness permitting) and Neal Maupay go head to head. Mcburnie with sixteen goals this season is enjoying a prolific return, but Maupay has again caught the eye this campaign with 21 goals to date, and surely a move to a Premier League club will be beckoning the Frenchman in the summer. Both forwards will be hoping to catch the eye of watching scouts as they aim to fire their team in the Quarter Finals.

Team News

Swansea’s Oli McBurnie could start after returning from illness to come on as a substitute in midweek, and the Swans will be hopeful he is fit to lead the line in this cup clash. However Nathan Dyer is a doubt with a hamstring problem, while Leroy Fer, Declan John and Wayne Routledge are all set to be ruled out, stretching their resources.

Brentford have no new injury concerns, and will continue to monitor Rico Henry, who has been sidelined with a foot injury. Fellow defender Henrik Dalsgaard is hoping to play, despite a broken bone in his hand.

Tight clash, form points to Brentford

With slightly superior recent form and some key injuries for Swansea, Brentford will fancy their chances of edging this clash. However, Swansea have defeated the Bees 3-2 earlier this season away from home, and with home advantage may sense a chance to progress. If Neal Maupay can fire, with able support from strike partner Ollie Watkins, the Bees have enough firepower to progress.
