Punter's Pick

A draw would suit both teams in a potentially tight and cagey affair, and looks good value at 13/5 with Bet365, with potential to cashout during the game. Romelu Lukaku is going through a purple patch at present and is 15/8 to score anytime with Bet365.

Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United square off at the Emirates Stadium, as the race for a top four spot hots up.

Contrasting midweek fortunes

The two sides come into the clash on the back of contrasting midweek fortunes in Europe, with United registering a magnificent 3-1 away win against Paris Saint-Germain, whilst Arsenal limped to a 3-1 defeat to modest French side Rennes.

Roundly written off after their 2-0 home defeat to PSG, United responded by storming into the lead inside two minutes, and despite conceding an equalizer to Juan Bernat, Romelu Lukaku’s strike kept them in the game. Whilst a controversial VAR assisted penalty may have proved an unsavoury end to a fascinating game, United will not care as they stormed into the Quarter Finals. All this was achieved with key players such as Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard absent through either suspension or injury, showing the strength and depth at their disposal.

Arsenal on the other hand did not perform so well in France, as their Europa League tie against Rennes descended into a somewhat bizarre 3-1 defeat, despite being 1-0 up inside four minutes. With Sokratis Papadopoulos sent off and Henrikh Mkhitaryan playing right back despite Ainsley Maitland-Niles being on the bench, it proved to another curious display from the Gunners, with manager Unai Emery’s tactics somewhat questionable.

Arsenal seek third home win against top six

Despite their midweek woes, Arsenal have shaped up quite decently against fellow teams from the top six at home this season. Their only defeat came on the opening day of the campaign against Manchester City, and they have followed that up with a draw against Liverpool and pulsating wins against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. They did however succumb to a 3-1 in the FA Cup at home to the Red Devils. United themselves have picked up points against Chelsea and Spurs on their travels, with a 3-1 defeat against bitter rivals Liverpool under Jose Mourinho being a bloat on their copybook so far this season.

Team News

Arsenal will be without midfield terrier Lucas Torreira, the influential Uruguayan starting a three game ban following his sending off against Spurs. The energetic midfielder has excelled in home games against teams from the top six and his absence could leave a gaping hole in the Gunners’ midfield. Alexandre Lacazette will at least be available after missing the midweek defeat through a suspension of his own.

Manchester United should have several key players back in contention, with Anthony Martial back from injury and Paul Pogba from suspension. Influential midfielders Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera could also feature, although the duo of Fred and Scott McTominay have been excelling in their absence, giving manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer food for thought.

High stakes game could end in stalemate

With just one point separating the two sides in the race for fourth position, neither team will be keen to lose ground and this game is likely to be much more cagier than the FA Cup clash earlier this season. Arsenal will surely have learnt their lesson from that game and will not be emptying their midfield so readily, and will be trying to deny Paul Pogba in particular the space to counter attack at pace as he did so successfully in the cup clash. Both teams may be happy to settle for a point and live to fight another day in the race for the top four.
