Villa Park

Punter's Pick

Aston Villa start this game as slight favourites but we feel picking an outright winner is risky. Villa dominated Norwich in the reverse fixture but Norwich have arguably been playing the better football of late. We feel that with both teams struggling to score, backing under 3.5 goals at 8/13 with Bet365 represents good value. This is also likely to be a competitive encounter and over 3.5 cards can also be backed at 8/13.

Aston Villa welcome Norwich City to Villa Park in a real six-pointer between two teams currently sitting in the relegation zone. With Southampton opening up a three point gap after the last round of games and Watford showing signs of improvement, both managers will be aware that a loss here will leave them in real danger of facing the drop.

Aston Villa have had a torrid run of late and find themselves in the bottom three despite periods of success during the season. They come into this game having lost their last four league fixtures including the big game against fellow strugglers Southampton, who won at Villa park courtesy of a Danny Ings brace and Jack Stephens strike. Dean Smith will be concerned at the patterns of play as Villa have usually competed well but were outrun and outfought by a spirited Saints side. It was a similar story when they came up again Sheffield United who dominated possession and the overall play with Villa lucky that it was only 2-0. The manager may well look to do something dramatic and change his shape and system as having Wesley spearhead the attack is not working. The Brazilian has managed just four goals this term, the last of which came back at the start of October and Kodija may well be given the nod in this one.

Norwich come into this game having not won in their last five league games but there have been positives for Daniel Farke in many of their games. The manager will be pleased with the fact that his team has been competitive throughout the season and their last three defeats have all been by the odd goal. In between those results were two notable draws, with the team getting a 2-2 away draw at Arsenal and then holding high-flying Leicester at the King Power. In both games a lack of quality up front and an inability to shut out opponents cost them three valuable points but they will be buoyed by the fact that they were able to hold their own against the big guns. How they transfer their good play into a win has been the conundrum and they will need to get more support up to Teemu Pukki if they are to get out of the bottom three.

In team news Aston Villa will be without John McGinn for upto three months with a fractured ankle. Tyrone Mings and Keinan Davis are also out with hamstring injuries but will be hopeful of making it back for the next round of Premier League games.

Norwich have reported no fresh injury concerns and could start with the same team that played Wolves last time out. Josip Drmic, Ben Godfrey and Timm Klose all remain out with long term injuries.

The last time these teams met Aston Villa dominated the game and ran out 5-1 winners at Carrow Road. Goals from Wesley (2), Jack Grealish, Conor Hourihane and Douglas Luiz secured the points and Norwich will be looking for revenge in this one.
