Vitality Stadium

Punter's Pick

Given the recent form of both teams we feel the bookies have got it right in pricing Manchester United as favourites but the 23/20 offered by Bet365 seems generous. United have Anthony Martial back who has transformed the team alongside Rashford and they now look much more threatening up front. Bourenmouth have not scored for three consecutive games and therefore we feel backing the Red Devils for an outright win represents excellent value.

Bournemouth welcome a rejuvenated Manchester United to the Vitality Stadium to kick-off the latest round of Premier League fixtures. Both teams enter the game joint on 13 points apiece but the confidence levels couldn’t be more different as Bournemouth have struggled for form whereas United are enjoying a turnaround in recent times. Can Eddie Howe put a stop to United and jumpstart his own campaign?

Despite having some impressive victories this season, Bournemouth are struggling for consistency and goals in what is now a familiar pattern. The team have failed to score in their last three Premier League games, losing 1-0 to Arsenal and then having back-to back stalemates against Norwich City and Watford. Eddie Howe knows that if he is to kick on and build upon his successes of previous seasons, his team needs to be winning against the teams that are struggling in the bottom half of the table. Consecutive 3-1 victories over Everton and Southampton seemed to signal the start of a run, only for the team now to have gone winless in their last five games in all competitions. With a side boasting the attacking prowess of Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser, Josh King, Harry Wilson and Dominic Solanke, Bourenmouth need to be in the top half to illustrate ongoing progress. The manager may well make significant changes on Saturday to provide the spark for a team that’s stagnating.

Manchester United come into this game on the back of three straight wins in three games across three competitions. The 1-1 draw against arch rivals Liverpool seemed to signal a turning point and although not always convincing the team beat Partizan Belgrade 1-0 in the Champions League, Norwich 3-1 in the Premier League and then Chelsea 2-1 in the League Cup. The turnaround in form seems to have coincided with the return of Anthony Martial and this has also helped alleviate the pressure off Marcus Rashford who has now struck four goals in five games in all competitions. Particularly impressive was the England man’s performance last time out against Chelsea where he scored a stupendous free kick to seal their passage to the next round. It seems as if the Red Devils are starting to click but tougher challenges lay ahead and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be aware that all their work could be derailed on Saturday afternoon if his players become complacent.

In team news, Bournemouth are without David Brooks, Charlie Daniels and Junior Stanislas who all remain sidelined with their respective injuries. They will be boosted by the news that Dan Gosling is back in training but this game is likely to come too soon for the midfielder.

Manchester United will be sweating on the fitness of Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire, who all picked up knocks during their League Cup victory over Chelsea. Record signing Paul Pogba remains out with an ankle injury and has been pencilled in for a return in December. Solskjaer is likely to start up front with Rashford and Martial with the likes of Pereira, Daniel James and Ashley Young all vying to come back into the starting lineup.

In head to heads between these teams, Manchester United have dominated proceedings and won their last four encounters. They have not lost to the Cherries since 2015 and the same fixture last season saw Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both score to hand United a 2-1 win. United fans will be hoping the recently united duo can repeat the trick whereas Bournemouth will be looking to change the formula in order to produce a positive outcome this time around.
