Punter's Pick

We therefore feel that a ‘Draw or Newcastle’ bet is very generously priced with Bet365 at 5/6. The Magpies have proven difficult to beat in recent times, but have actually added goals at a crucial time to help them turn draws into wins. We feel that the Magpies have the capacity to at least come away with a point on Saturday, making this pick a good one to back.

Bournemouth host Newcastle in a game where the home side will be looking to continue their push for a top half finish, whilst the visitors will be looking to put more daylight between themselves and the drop zone.

The Cherries finally broke a run of four winless games when they beat Huddersfield 2-0 away. Goals from Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser secured the points to ensure they only remain a point behind 10th placed Leicester, who they play after this game.Eddie Howe certainly had a difficult run in recent times having come up against Wolves, Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal in the lead up to the result over Huddersfield but can now look ahead to games against teams in and around them, with a strong run potentially pushing them up to seventh.

Newcastle come into this game having won three out of their last four league fixtures, including an incredible comeback against Everton last time out. The Magpies were 2-0 down at the break only for them to strom back in the second half via goals from Salomon Rondon and an Ayoze Perez double. Newcastle can also look forward to more games against teams placed in and around them and will fancy their chances of avoiding the drop having beaten the likes of Burnley, Huddersfield and Cardiff in recent times.

Newcastle will enter this game confident of a result having performed well against Bournemouth in previous games. They won the reverse fixture 2-1 earlier in the season when a Salomon Rondon double was enough for all three points, despite Bournemouth getting one back through Jefferson Lerma. Rafa’s men also performed well on the south coast last year and should have won having gone 2-0 up through a double strike from Dwight Gayle. Bournemouth managed to salvage a draw but will be concerned that Benitez does seem to relish playing against them.

It is highly likely that Newcastle will look to start with a similar lineup to the one that beat Everton. With Rondon leading the line and being one of the better players in holding up the ball, will allow Benitez to be organised defensively knowing that the likes of Perez and Almiron can join when breaking out.

Bournemouth’s first win after five games coincided with a return to action for Callum Wilson, with the England man opening the scoring after 20 minutes. Eddie Howe will be hoping to keep him fit for the remainder of the season and will be tempted to start him again, especially after he received the boost of another international call up.

Picking an outright winner between these two is tricky given that Bournemouth are at home and capable of turning on the style on their day. However, Newcastle are actually the form team coming in to this game and still maintain the intensity in their play having not cleared themselves away from relegation completely. Benitez will know that a poor run of form could bring them right back towards the bottom and so will most likely have his team drilled harder in the build up for this game.
