Punter's Pick

Sheffield United to gain victory with the benefit of a +1 handicap could be an interesting proposition at 4/5 with Bet365, and if the Blades can hold Bournemouth at bay deep into the second half consider cashing out. For the romantics out there journeyman striker Billy Sharp is 7/1 with Bet365 to make his 241st career goal the first of this game and the first Premier League goal of his productive career.

Newly promoted Sheffield United mark their return to the Premier League with a trip to perennial mid-table finishers Bournemouth, in what could be an intriguing clash of new vs established.

Busy summer in the transfer market for Blades

The Blades have been one of the most active teams in the Premier League this summer, with seven new signings already arriving to supplement their existing squad as they look to hit the ground running on their return to the Premier League.

Former Bournemouth striker Lys Mousset arrived for a then record £11million fee, only to be surpassed by the £20million outlay for form Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie.

Clearly having enough firepower has been a key priority for Blades manager Chris Wilder, and with the experience of free transfer sign Phil Jagielka added to win the potential wildcard Ravel Morrision, it certainly promises to be an interesting season ahead for the Premier League new boys.

Cherries look for fast start

The home side will be desperate to start the new campaign well, after a dismal end to the 2018/19 season. Eddie Howe’s side won just three of their last fourteen Premier League fixtures last season, including shipping five goals on the last day away at Crystal Palace.

It turned out to be a tale of two halves for the Cherries, with the optimism of the first half of the season and a push for a top eight finish evaporating at an alarming rate as they looked nervously over their shoulder at the relegation places towards the back end of the campaign.

Bournemouth have been reasonably active in the transfer market to date this summer, alongside their focus to hold on to prized assets such as Nathan Ake and Ryan Fraser.

Exciting Liverpool forward Harry Wilson has arrived on loan and will be determined to showcase his skills in the Premier League after a stellar season in the Championship at Derby County. Another winger, Arnaut Danjuma has arrived from Club Brugge for a reported £16million, and the signing of central midfielder Philip Billing from relegated Huddersfield Town should help add more bite and energy.

Emerging talent Lloyd Kelly has also been snapped up from Bristol City – the young defender has earned rave reviews to date and it will be interesting to see how he progresses this season under the tutelage of Eddie Howe.

New boys could spring a surprise?

The opening weekend of the Premier League season usually always throws up a surprising result, often involving a newly promoted team riding the wave of momentum and optimism and upsetting an established top flight side.

With both these teams ending their seasons in contrasting fortunes, the Blades will certainly fancy their chances of getting something from this game, especially if the catch the hosts on one of their frequent off days they had at the backend of last season. With a raft of new signings eager to make their mark on both sides, it promises to be a close encounter, one in which the Blades may be able to spring a surprise and return to Bramall Lane with at least a point.
