Amex Stadium

Punter's Pick

Jamie Vardy is in irresistible form at present and can make Brighton’s afternoon a long one by opening the scoring at 10/3 with Bet365. The same firm also have Leicester at a generous Evens to pick up all three points and should be snapped up at this price given their current form both and away.

High flying Leicester City face another decent test of their top four credentials as they face an entertaining but inconsistent Brighton side at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton a ‘Leicester City’ progress?

There are some similarities between the two sides in terms of the style of football that both play or are trying to play, with the Foxes obviously further ahead in the journey given the current league position of both sides. Brighton under the new management of Graham Potter have dispensed with their rather one dimensional direct approach and 4-4-2 formation favoured under his predecessor Chris Hughton, in favour or a more fluid passing out from the back approach, with a shift to more of a 4-3-3.

The Foxes themselves have undergone a similar transformation under manager Brendan Rodgers, favouring a 4-3-3 approach and with much more emphasis on ball retention and playing out carefully from the back. Their rise to second in the Premier League is a good example to sides like Brighton that a braver approach can reap rewards, although to be fair Rodgers inherited a much more talented squad than Graham Potter and is therefore not surprisingly much further ahead in his project.

Foxes look to keep up their impressive run

The international break can often be a momentum breaker for teams, and it probably could not have come at a worse time for Foxes, who are in the middle of a four game winning stream. With 29 goals scored so far as well this season, they have also been in free flowing form in front of goal, with only defending champions Manchester City having found the net on more occasions so far this season (35).

The omens are also good in terms of their run of form against Brighton specifically, with three wins and a draw against the Seagulls since the south coast club made its return to the Premier League. The last time these two sides met at the Amex Stadium a bad tempered affair ended 1-1, with James Maddison earning a red card for the away side, a match which also saw the prolific Jamie Vardy start on the bench and come on as a second half substitute.

Team News

Brighton captain Lewis Dunk misses out this weekend after picking up his fifth yellow card in Brighton’s 3-1 defeat at Man Utd before the international break, leaving a massive hole in the centre of Brighton’s defence. Leandro Trossard and talented teenager Aaron Connolly are both doubts and will face late fitness tests.

Leicester have potential problems in defence too, with influential Jonny Evans facing a late fitness test. The Northern Ireland star did not start the last round of international fixtures and was sorely missed as Northern Ireland were trounced 6-1 by Germany. Other than Evans there are no other injury concerns in what has become a settled starting XI for Brendan Rodgers.

Foxes to continue winning streak?

Although Brighton have turned in impressive home performances to defeat more illustrious opponents such as Spurs and Everton so far this season, an in-form and confident Leicester side will pose an entirely different challenge. With key defender Lewis Dunk also missing through suspension, Brighton will be hard pressed to keep Jamie Vardy and co. at bay for 90 minutes, and may succumb to the superior quality of the visitors
