Amex Stadium

Punter's Pick

Both teams have struggled for goals and we think an under 2.5 goals at 4/7 with Bet365 could be a good bet. However with Brighton taking such a hammering at the hands of Bournemouth and Cardiff capable of playing good football, an outside punt at 16/5 for a Cardiff win might be a good market. You could hedge this further by backing a draw or Cardiff win at 10/11 as Brighton may also struggle to score to gain an outright victory.

Brighton welcome Cardiff to the Amex Stadium in a huge game that determine which side goes down and which remains in the Premier League. Brighton sit five points above Cardiff with a game in hand but with poor form Neil Warnock will feel his team could be in with a shout of surviving if they can narrow that down to two points.

Brighton go in to this game having lost four games in a row in all competitions. Chris Hughton must have felt comfortable when his team beat Huddersfield and Crystal Palace back to back, but they have lost three Premier League games on the bounce without scoring a goal. Despite having their Premier League fate in their own hands, a loss to Cardiff could put them in real danger as they have two tough away fixtures at Wolves and Spurs, with games against Arsenal and Manchester City also to come. Hughton will have to decide whether to stick or twist as even a draw could be a good result to maintain their five point gap over Cardiff with a game still in hand.

Cardiff will be hoping that they can take the game to Brighton and look at the fact that they have been good against many sides this season and have been unfortunate with refereeing decisions. In such a big game and against a team struggling for goals, Warnock is likely to ask his team to go for it and ensure they get the maximum points to increase their chances of safety. However the form of the Bluebirds also hasn’t been great, losing six out of their last seven fixtures. But against teams around them they will feel like they have a better chance and they also have fixtures against Fulham and Crystal Palace, where they will feel they can get something out of the games.

In team news, Brighton will be without key man Anthony Knockaert who was dismissed in their 5-0 thumping at the hands of Bournemouth. They may bring top scorer Glenn Murray back in to the starting lineup, especially the stakes so high. Jose Izquierdo may also get the nod to start on the left hand side as Chris Hughton looks to set up and push for goals which have been a real struggle of late.

Cardiff haven’t reported any new injuries but remain without long-term absentees Callum Paterson, Sol Bamba, Alex Smithies and Matthew Connolly.

The atmosphere is likely to be very tense on Tuesday night as this game could be so crucial for the final standings. Both teams tend to play out tight games with Cardiff winning the reverse fixture 2-1 earlier in the season courtesy of a late Souleymane Bamba goal. Their two games in the Championship last season saw a 0-0 draw and tight 1-0 victory for Brighton so there really isn’t much to pick between these teams.
