Amex Stadium

Punter's Pick

With both teams showing poor form in the season thus far, it would ordinarily be difficult to pick a winner. However we feel that Everton are misrepresented by their current position and the class and quality within the team is more potent than Brighton’s. Bet365 are offering a very generous 6/4 for an Everton victory and given their performance last time out we feel this represents excellent value. Brighton have struggled to score goals, proving more solid than spectacular, But an Everton side that has many £35M plus players should do the business on Saturday afternoon and take all three points back to Merseyside.

Brighton welcome Everton to the Amex Stadium with both teams struggling for form this season. Recent wins have been cause for some optimism but the two teams sit in 15th and 16th places respectively and are currently looking to pull away from the relegation zone rather than challenging for positions in the top half. A loss here could have serious consequences for both managers making this a must-win on Saturday afternoon.

Brighton come into this game having won one out of their last seven games in all competitions. Fans were optimistic when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 courtesy of goals from Neal Maupay and Aaron Connolly but they followed up with a 2-1 loss against fellow strugglers Aston Villa. The Seagulls were on course for a point when Matt Targett struck with a late winner, with Brighton again guilty of switching off and leaking goals at the wrong times. They did display grit and determination for most of the game having played with 10 men from the 35th minute with Aaron Mooy receiving a red card. With the team having a difficult fixture list coming up, they will be viewing this game as one they need to win, where previously a point against Everton would have been considered a good result.

Everton got back on track in their last game after beating high-flying West Ham 2-0 courtesy of goals from Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson. It was a much improved performance from the Toffees and manager Marco Silva must have been fearing the worst if his team did not deliver all three points. The form of Theo Walcott was particularly impressive and Andre Gomes finally managed to assert himself on a game and pull the strings from midfield and this may be the formula which works for them moving forward. With a fixture list that contains various games the Toffee’s will count as winnable, Everton fans will be optimistic of a good run that could propel them up the table.

In team news, Aaron Mooy serves a one match ban for the aforementioned red card he received against Aston Villa. Jose Izquierdo and Bernardo remain out for the Seagulls but they don’t have any other fresh injury concerns.

Everton are sweating on the fitness of defender Yerry Mina who sustained a knee injury against West Ham. Mason Holgate is waiting in the wings to take over if the Colombian is indeed ruled out. Fabian Delph and Morgan Schneiderlin will both be pushing for starts in midfield after overcoming their respective injuries with Seamus Coleman also available after serving a ban for his red card in the loss at Burnley.

In recent meetings these two have had some tight battles and no one team has dominated the other over the years. Both teams enjoyed success in the respective fixtures last season with Everton winning 3-1 at home through a Richarlison brace and Seamus Coleman goal. Brighton got their revenge in the reverse fixture courtesy of a Jurgen Locadia strike to win 1-0.
