Punter's Pick

Both teams to score seems a good choice given Watford’s ability to score away and Brighton’s general reasonable form at home. Bet365 are offering 10/11 on this eventuality, and over 2.5 goals at 6/5 looks appealing with both sides capable of nicking a decisive result. Glenn Murray rediscovered his goalscoring touch in midweek with a brace against Fulham, and is 7/2 with Ladbrokes to open the scoring. Fans hoping for Robert Pereyra to rediscover his touch in front of goal can back the Argentine at 11/4 to score anytime, also with Ladbrokes.

Brighton play host to top ten placed Watford, with both teams keen to put behind them disappointing midweek results and get back to winning ways on Saturday.

Brighton collapse a cause for concern?

Brighton seemed to be cruising to a much needed three points in midweek, as they comfortably led relegation threatened Fulham 2-0 at half-time. A calamitous second half saw them fold in a manner not witnessed all season, as they collapsed to a 4-2 defeat against their rampant opponents. Manager Chris Hughton will be concerned by the manner of the defeat, with a lack of confidence evident as soon as Fulham got back to 2-2, his side seemingly resigned to the fact that the Cottagers would go on and win the match. The defeat made it three losses in a row in the Premier League for Brighton, with just one win in their last five league games and one point in their last four fixtures. This run of results will leave Hughton slightly concerned that his side is beginning to look over their shoulders rather than upward as they enter the last third of the season.

Watford still in the mix for a top eight spot

Watford themselves also experienced midweek disappointment, having looked all set to get something from their London derby with Tottenham at Wembley. Two goals in the last ten minutes snuffed out their stout challenge, as an away win against a top six continues to remain elusive for manager Javi Gracia. The defeat made it just one win in their last six league games as they slipped to ninth in the league. With sides such as Bournemouth, Wolves and Everton all winning in midweek, the race for a top eight spot continues to hot up, and the Hornets will be keen to get back to winning ways against a vulnerable looking Brighton side.

Comfortable win for Watford in reverse fixture

The two sides met back in the league back in August, as Watford ran out comfortable 2-0 winners at Vicarage Road. Two goals from Roberto Pereyra were enough to see off the challenge of the Seagulls in the opening round of fixtures of the 2018-19 season. Pereyra’s goal scoring form has dropped off considerably since those early heady days, the Argentine has only found the net once in his last fourteen appearances, after an initial burst of five goals in his first ten appearances of the season.

Hornets to get something

Watford come into this fixture in decent away form – they have scored in each of their last five away games, and given Brighton’s frailties against Fulham will be confident of finding a goal or two again.

Brighton in turn have five home wins on the board this season, a reasonable return. They tend to only win by one the solitary goal at home, with only one of their wins this season coming by two goals. A draw would not be a disaster for both teams, and neither side are currently playing their best football at the moment.
