Turf Moor

Punter's Pick

Burnley come into this game in good form, and look well priced at 5/6 to take all three points against their lowly opponents. Ashley Barnes has been in decent goalscoring form for the hosts, and can be backed to find the net again anytime at 6/4 with Betfair. In a game not likely to be packed with goalmouth action, 2.5 goals and under at 4/5 with Bet365 also looks an interesting proposition.

Cardiff City travel to Burnley on Saturday, with the home side eyeing a victory that should all but ensure Premier League safety, whilst the visitors fast running out of games to try and haul themselves out of trouble.

Must win for Cardiff?

Still five points from safety and with Liverpool and Manchester United to come, Cardiff are fast running out of games and options in their pursuit of Premier League survival. With an inferior goal difference compared to Southampton and Brighton, realistically they may need to find four wins from their last six games, no easy feat with two of the big six to still to face.

The pivotal point in their season may be the 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea at the end of March, with three points cruelly snatched from them by a poor offside decision that went against them. With an away trip to follow against fellow strugglers Brighton on Tuesday, the Bluebirds future in the Premier League hangs by a thread unless they pick up points in their next two games.

Burnley easing to another season in the top flight

In contrast to their opponents, Burnley have managed to dig out results at exactly the right time, and have almost slipped unnoticed up the Premier League table to a relatively comfortable 14th position. Crucially they have a eight point cushion over Cardiff and the last relegation place, and will feel dispatching their opponents on Saturday will all bit seal another year in the top flight.

However, a defeat on Saturday still leaves potential for Burnley to be dragged back into trouble considering the daunting nature of their last four fixtures. Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton and Arsenal could stand between the Clarets and Premier League safety, so there is no doubt Sean Dyche will be stressing the importance of picking up a result against Cardiff.

Team News

Sean Dyche is unlikely to tinker with his starting XI after impressive back to back league wins, so the same team that impressively came from behind to beat Bournemouth last weekend are expected to start. Squad players Peter Crouch, Aaron Lennon and Phil Bardsley are battling niggles and may not be available.

For Cardiff, influential captain Sol Bamba is out for the rest of the season, recently joined by defender turned striker Mark Paterson. The loss of their two most influential players remains a headache for manager Neil Warnock, with his team shipping goals at one end and struggling to score at the other.

Burnley too strong on current form

Coming into this game on the back of successive league wins, Burnley will be very confident of securing a huge blow and pushing Cardiff ever close to the relegation trapdoor, whilst all but ensuring their safety in the process. The visitors rarely look like getting a result on their travels, their total of nine goals in fifteen away games being a league low. In what may be a tense and tight tussle, Burnley should have enough tools to get the job done in front on their fans on the way to a third successive league win.
