Turf Moor

Punter's Pick

Crystal Palace are a tempting 17/10 to come away victorious from this match, available with Bet365. Both teams look capable of scoring in recent weeks so 2.5 goals and over at 11/10 with Betfair warrants serious consideration as well.

Burnley entertain Crystal Palace on Saturday, with both teams inching closer to safety in Premier League despite setbacks in midweek leaving them both five points clear of the relegation places.

Burnley undefeated run comes to an end

Prior to their trip to Newcastle United in midweek, Burnley were one of only two teams undefeated in the Premier League in 2019. That run had taken in a testing trip to Old Trafford, and also included a memorable 2-1 win against Tottenham last weekend, severely denting their opponent’s title chances.

That defeat ended a club record eight game unbeaten sequence in the Premier League, and manager Sean Dyche will be keen for his team to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible. His team looked slightly fatigued in midweek, and didn’t appear to have the legs to get back into the game after falling 2-0 down at the break. Dyche will be keen for his team to get back on track, with difficult games against Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal still to follow in the end of season run in.

Eagles continue to be inconsistent
With a FA Cup Quarter Final to look forward to, manager Roy Hodgson will be keen to pick up points from this fixture and their next one against Brighton so they can throw themselves into the tie against Watford. A stunning 4-1 victory against Leicester City last week showcased what the Eagles are capable of when things click and come together, and a glimpse of their attacking power. However a limp display in the 3-1 defeat against injury hit Manchester United last time out showed the glaring inconsistency that exists, and it will be anyone’s guess what Crystal Palace show up to Burnley on Saturday.

Palace seeking league double over Clarets
The two sides met previously at the beginning of December at Selhurst Park, with Palace running out comfortable 2-0 winners thanks to goals from James McArthur and makeshift striker Andros Townsend. It was another makeshift striker that day who made the real difference, with Wilfried Zaha impressing and tormenting the Burnley defence throughout. It will be interesting to see what plan Burnley come up to deal with the Ivorian this time, particularly if they look to play on the front foot and leave themselves vulnerable to Zaha’s pace on the counter attack.

Team News
Burnley will be boosted by the return of Ashley Westwood, who missed the defeat away at Newcastle through illness. This game however will come too soon for Aaron Lennon, who has resumed light training. Jonathan Walters and Steven Defour remain absent through long-term injuries.

For the Eagles talented full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is available again after missing three games through injury, but key defender Mamadou Sakho is set to miss several weeks following surgery on his injured knee.

Palace to excel on the road again?

The Eagles have a useful record on the road this season, winning five and drawing two, with seven defeats. Their style of play is more suited to playing at pace on the counter attack, and if they can repel the physical threat Burnley’s attack poses they will be confident of coming away with a point, or even all three as the Clarets look to recover from their dismal midweek defeat.
