Turf Moor

Punter's Pick

In the betting markets, an outright City victory offers little value as they are such overwhelming favourites. However the last four games have all produced 10 corners or more and this market is well priced at 5/6 with Bet365. Over 3.5 goals is also well priced at 6/5 considering this was produced in their two meetings this season already.

Burnley welcome champions Manchester City to Turf Moor in a game that could yet have huge repercussions in the title race. Burnley have been in good form recently and will feel confident that they have the style and personnel to put a block on City. However the champions have been in sizzling form leading into this game but know that anything less than a victory will leave the title in Liverpool’s hands.

Burnley will go into this game with the threat of relegation no longer looming over their heads. The Clarets have been hovering around the bottom three for much of the season but a run of four unbeaten games including three victories have ensured survival for another season. After their defeat to Leicester fans may have been fearing the worst, but a 2-0 victory over high-flying Wolves was the catalyst for an impressive run. Further victories over Bournemouth and fellow strugglers Cardiff followed, and their result against Neil Warnock’s men was the crucial one as it allowed some daylight between themselves and the bottom three. But Sean Dyche will also be pleased with their ability to mix it with the big boys having secured a 2-2 draw away at Chelsea.

Manchester City have shown true championship form having bounced back from their dramatic Champions League exit at the hands of Tottenham. The mentality of their players would have been questioned and the whole season could have been derailed after such an emotional rollercoaster. However beating Tottenham in the Premier League a few days later and then going to Old Trafford and securing a 2-0 victory over their city rivals was testament to Guardiola’s abilities as a manager and the mental strength of their players. The champions do still have potentially tricky ties coming up, but they will feel in the ascendency going in to the final three games of the league season.

In team news, Burnley have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this game and could start with the same team for the fourth game in a row. Peter Crouch, Steven Defour and Aaron Lennon remain out whilst Phil Bardsley is a doubt with a gashed leg.

Manchester City do have a few concerns ahead of this game as a fixture pile-up begins to take its toll. Midfielder Fernandinho hobbled off in the game against United and Bernardo Silva was also a concern ahead of this fixture. Midfield talisman Kevin De Bruyne remains out so it is likely that Leroy Sane will lineup alongside Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling. The back-four will likely remain unchanged.

The champions certainly have had the better of this fixture over the years with Burnley last winning back in 2015. The teams have met twice this season already with Burnley suffering 5-0 defeats in both the league game and FA Cup defeat. Amazingly in both games City had five players who scored a goal apiece in each game so Sean Dyche will be fearing the worst. But their own form has been much better and with the their top-flight status secured, the Clarets will be looking to put on an improved performance.
