Turf Moor

Punter's Pick

The brave choice would be to back Burnley to win outright at 4/1, but hedge your bets slightly and back Burnley to win or a draw at 5/4, all odds with Bet365. Alternatively Burnley to win with a +1 handicap is also an interesting 5/4, also with Bet365, while Son Heung-Min is 11/10 to continue his excellent form and score anytime with Ladbrokes.

Title chasing Tottenham Hotspur visit Turf Moor for a tricky looking lunchtime clash, as they take in-form Burnley as the Premier League weekend kicks off with an intriguing looking fixture.

Burnley in a good moment, but wretched form against top six

Burnley go into this fixture as remarkably only one of two teams undefeated in the Premier League in 2019, on the back of a seven game unbeaten run. Such numbers have carried them to three points outside of the relegation places, and gives them a fighting chance of regaining their top flight status.

Their form against the top six however is not as encouraging – they have taken only two points from the last available 42 at Turf Moor against the top six, something which will certainly play on their minds on Saturday. In those games they have conceded 27 goals as well, finding the net only six times themselves, so they will be desperate to show they can mix it against the very best teams. A recent 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford will give them some hope and a template to replicate, and they will need to turn in a similar performance to stand any chance of getting anything from this game.

Tottenham sense chance to close the gap to top two

The magnitude of this fixture will not be lost on Spurs players and fans alike, as they possibly stand to end the weekend just two points behind Manchester City and Liverpool. With Manchester City on Carabao Cup final duties, and Liverpool facing a daunting trip to their bitter and in-form rivals Manchester United, Spurs have a golden opportunity to go within one win of the Premier League summit.

This fixture marks the run of three key fixtures in under eight days, as they follow up this clash with an away London derby at Chelsea, followed by a highly anticipated North London derby against bitter rivals Arsenal. The next three fixtures will probably determine where Spurs’ title ambitions will go – win all three games and they enter the home straight with a good a chance as the top two of winning the title. Dropping points in these three testing fixtures could however, spell curtains for another year for their title ambitions.

Team News

The big news for Spurs is star striker Harry Kane has resumed training ahead of schedule, and could feature in some capacity on Saturday, most likely from the bench. Ben Davies is also back in training and could be called upon, with fellow full-back Danny Rose struggling with illness. Dele Alli remains the only major absentee of note with a hamstring injury.

For Burnley wingers Robbie Brady and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are both back in training and likely to be available after missing the win over Brighton through muscle injuries. However midfielder Steven Defour remains sidelined with a calf injury.

Close encounter, can Burnley finally end their top six jinx?

On paper Tottenham look strong favourites to win given their current league position and form, however Burnley showed in their 2-2 draw with Manchester United they can upset even the most in-form of top six teams. With Spurs only having three days to recover after their Champions League exploits against Borussia Dortmund and combined with an early kick off, this has the makings of a possible fraught afternoon for the North London side.
