Stamford Bridge

Punter's Pick

Chelsea should have too much quality for the visitors and look good value to be winning at both halftime and full-time at 4/5 with Bet365. Eden Hazard looked a level above his teammates when introduced against Cardiff City at the weekend and will fancy his chances of adding to his three goals against Brighton. He can be backed at 15/4 to open the scoring or 21/20 to score anytime, both with Bet365.

Under pressure Maurizio Sarri sees his Chelsea side take on FA Cup Semi Finalists Brighton, as he seeks a convincing victory to win over the increasingly hostile home fans.

Push for back four back on

Chelsea come into this clash still seeking to rekindle the form of earlier in the season, where they looked like potential title challengers at the very minimum. Three wins in their last five league games has at least got their top four challenge back on track, although damaging away defeats to Everton and a 6-0 thrashing to Manchester City in recent weeks underline the inconsistency that has characterized the second half of the campaign.

At the heart of recent dissent from the stands has been the rigid ‘Sarri ball’ employed by the Italian manager, seemingly oblivious to adapting tactics to suit the opposition and match situation. Favouring an endless stream of like for like substitutions and failing to utilize the talented Callum Hudson-Odoi has further infuriated fans, and given the ruthless nature of the club’s hierarchy Sarri will need to deliver a top four finish and/or the Europa League to even contemplate still being at Stamford Bridge next season.

Brighton still not safe

Brighton’s mini revival of back to back wins came to a disappointing halt on the weekend, as they surrendered tamely 1-0 to fellow strugglers Southampton in a crucial bottom of the table clash. That result leaves them still five points outside the relegation zone, but in their favour is Cardiff City still have to play three of the top six clubs and may struggle to find enough points to catch Brighton, Burnley and Southampton, all of whom sit on 33 points.

Away from home, Brighton have rarely travelled well this season, winning just three games in fifteen attempts and picking up eleven points in total.

Team News

Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante are expecting to return to the starting lineup for Chelsea after both were surprisingly rested for the trip to Cardiff City. Given the Blues’ subsequent struggles in that fixture they both should come back into the starting XI. Despite intense media pressure, Sarri has resisted using Callum Hudson-Odoi with any great significance in the Premier League so far this season, and it will be interesting if he again leaves him amongst the substitutes. Marcos Alonso looks to be an injury doubt through a hamstring problem, leaving Brazilian Emerson Palmieri a chance to play a rare game in the league.

Brighton manager Chris Hughton will have to decide whether to rotate his squad with their momentous FA Cup Semi Final coming up on the weekend. Striker Florin Andone is available for selection after missing three games due to injury but Pascal Gross remains out and is facing a race against time to be fit for the Wembley showpiece against Manchester City.

Chelsea should prove too strong

With one eye on the FA Cup and Chelsea likely to be at close to full strength, Brighton could have their work cut out to come away with anything from this clash. They have failed to even score on their previous four visits in league and cup to Stamford Bridge, and that run could well continue as the home side seek their tenth successive win against the Seagulls.
