Stamford Bridge

Punter's Pick

Callum Wilson has scored six times in his last six appearances against West Ham, and can be backed at 9/2 with Bet365 to open the scoring and also score in four consecutive Premier League games for the first time as well. Sebastien Haller should prove a real thorn in Bournemouth’s defence and can be backed to score anytime at 7/5, again with Bet365.

Chelsea go in search of their first home league win of the season as they entertain a struggling Brighton side searching for some inspiration after a run of indifferent form.

Chelsea primed for first three points at the Bridge?

New manager Frank Lampard could justifiably be scratching his head trying to figure out why his side have not managed to secure his first home win as Blues manager, as they have let slip a number of promising situations at home. A disappointing 1-1 draw with Leicester City was followed by letting slip a 2-0 lead at home to Sheffield United, before the Blues had their pockets picked by a streetwise Liverpool side last weekend in a 2-1 home defeat.

Even in defeat to the league leaders, Chelsea did more than enough to force a positive result, with a combination of VAR, wasteful finishing and two well worked set pieces from the visitors being their undoing. They will surely feel a similar level of performance from their talented group of youth and experience should surely get them off and running at the Bridge on Saturday.

Brighton already facing that sinking feeling?

After a miserable season last time out, ultimately resulting in avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth, Brighton fans were cautiously optimistic a change in manager in the shape of Graham Potter may revive their fortunes. A brilliant 3-0 win away to Watford on the opening day further grew belief that a change in style should bring a change in fortunes compared to the last campaign.

However three points from the last available fifteen since that opening day win show that all is still not well with the Seagulls, and Watford’s subsequent performances suggest that opening day win may have slightly flattered Potter’s side. They desperately need to start picking up points more regularly soon or another inevitable battle against relegation looms.

Team News

Chelsea had the luxury of making multiple changes to the side that lost to Liverpool in the league during their midweek 7-1 thrashing of Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, and should return to a more familiar lineup this week. Definitely missing will be left back Emerson, who limped off last weekend with a recurrence of a hamstring problem. Andreas Christensen also came off injured in the same game, but should be passed fit.

Brighton have been dealt a blow with influential defender Shane Duffy ruled out with calf injury. Bernardo, Solly March and Leandro Trossard are also unlikely to feature but Glenn Murray and Alireza Jahanbakhsh could both return following recent injuries.

Another fruitless afternoon for the visitors

Brighton have been generally okay on their travels this season, and even in a 4-0 defeat at Manchester City they did at least look to impose themselves on the match and stick to their newly found passing principles. However with Chelsea posing a number of problems for them in the attacking third, and with key defender Shane Duffy missing through injury, they are unlikely to come away with anything from this fixture as Frank Lampard’s side bag their first three points at home this season.
