Stamford Bridge

Punter's Pick

Chelsea start this game as strong favourites and there is little value in backing them for an outright win. Instead the cards market is where historically punters can get some joy as Bet365 have generously priced over 2.5 cards at 8/11. Their last encounter delivered six yellow cards and the aforementioned game at Stamford Bridge last season also saw two red cards. The corner count has also historically been low and under 11 corners at 4/5 with the same bookmaker also offers good value.

Chelsea host Burnley at Stamford Bridge, with the London club locked in a tight battle for a top four spot. Burnley are still not mathematically safe from relegation and will continue to battle for the remaining points required to secure top flight status for another season.

Chelsea come into this game in good form having won five out of their last six games in all competitions. A run of four straight wins came to an end when they lost 2-0 to Liverpool but victory in both legs of the Europa League against Slavia Prague ensures they maintain the winning feeling coming into this game. Although they always seemed comfortable, Maurizio Sarri will be a little concerned at conceding two quick goals against Slavia Prague and will want to ensure that his team don’t lose focus in the final run-in.

Burnley have put together a run of three successive wins which has seen them pull further away from the drop zone. A 2-0 home win against high-flying Wolves was the catalyst and they have won a couple of huge games against Bournemouth and the proverbial six-pointer against Cardiff. It was that result that put real daylight between them and the bottom three courtesy of a Chris Wood brace. Sean Dyche knows that with a tough final run-in which includes other games against Manchester City and Arsenal, his team could be pulled back into the relegation battle if any of the other teams put together a run and his team don’t get at a least a couple of draws to stay safe.

In team news, Burnley will be without Aaron Lennon, Peter Crouch and Steven Defour with Phil Bardsley also a doubt. Sean Dyche will most likely look to keep as much of the same playing 11 as possible that has helped put together their run of three straight wins.

Chelsea will be without Antonio Rüdiger who went off injured in the game against Liverpool. There are also doubts over Marcos Alonso and Eden Hazard, who came in for some rough treatment in their Europa League game against Slavia Prague. Fitness checks will take place prior to the game to assess their ability to start.

Although Chelsea have had the better of this fixture over the years, Burnley have given a good account of themselves and the last time these two teams played each other at Stamford Bridge saw Burnley pull off a stunning 3-2 victory. Sam Vokes’ double and a goal from Stephen Ward helped secure the three points in a game which saw Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas both sent off for the Blues. Chelsea will be looking to the game earlier in the season where they comfortably won 4-0 and hope to repeat the trick and maintain pressure on Spurs, Manchester United and Arsenal in grabbing a top four spot.
