Stamford Bridge

Punter's Pick

Chelsea start this game as strong favourites and there isn’t much value in backing an outright win. Other markets that do look generous include the under 4.5 cards market, currently priced at 8/11 with Bet365. The two games last season produced one card in each game so this isn’t a fixture which has traditional been dirty. Both teams also have plenty of attacking prowess on the wings and backing over 10 corners could represent great value at evens.

Chelsea welcome Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge and the home side will be looking to continue their impressive run and maintain a place in the Champions League spots. Crystal Palace have already notched some notable scalps this season and will be looking to add the Blues to that list in their own backyard.

After a tough start to life in the hot seat, Frank Lampard has now overseen a run of one defeat in their last ten competitive games, winning eight in the process. The solitary loss was against Manchester United in the League Cup, before which they had won seven on the bounce. The team come into this game off the back of an impressive 2-1 victory away at Watford, which was followed by an astonishing Champions League game against Ajax where the Blues were 4-1 down before mounting a comeback to level at 4-4. The team has started to gel well with a fine balance between experience and youth and this is paying dividends for Lampard. If they can maintain their form, they will be able to bolster their ranks once their transfer ban finishes further boosting their top four credentials.

Crystal Palace started the season well but have tailed off in recent weeks. Back to back wins over Norwich and West Ham were followed by a home loss to Manchester City and most recently a 2-0 home loss against Leicester City. There was some hope between those games where Roy Hodgson’s men came from 2-0 down at the Emirates to secure a 2-2 draw but scoring goals has remained a long-term issue. Jordan Ayew has led the line well but if he doesn’t play then Christian Benteke has been unable to produce the same form that made him a star at Aston Villa. The Belgian has not scored all season and Palace will need him to fire if they are to maintain their push for a top half finish.

In team news, Chelsea could welcome back N’Golo Kante who was an unused substitute during their midweek Champions League game against Ajax. Mason Mount is pushing to be fit but Ross Barkley misses out and Jorginho has racked up five bookings, resulting in an automatic suspension for the Italian.

Crystal Palace will be hoping that Andros Townsend will have fully recovered from the muscular injury he picked up in the game against Arsenal. Cheikhou Kouyate and former Blues defender Gary Cahill are both looking to shake off their respective head injuries to also play a part on Saturday.

In recent games Chelsea have enjoyed the better of this fixture over the years. They won both fixtures last season, winning 3-1 at home courtesy of goals from Alvaro Morata (2) and Pedro. The Blues completed the double through an N’Golo Kante strike when they visited Selhurst Park and Lampard will be hoping to repeat the trick this time around.
