Stamford Bridge

Punter's Pick

The markets however have put Chelsea as favourites and we actually agree with their assessment. The positive signs that were shown in their first two games should culminate in a victory at Stamford Bridge, especially with a passionate crowd behind Lampard upon his return to the Bridge. Bet365 have priced the Blues at 7/10 and we feel that this is good value for an outright victory.

Frank Lampard returns to Stamford Bridge in his first home game as manager and he will be keen for the Blues to get their first win under his stewardship. Former Reserve Team Manager Brendan Rodgers stands in his way and the Leicester boss will be hoping to get one over on his former employers.

Chelsea come into this game having lost both their opening competitive fixtures. A 4-0 defeat away at Manchester United was further compounded by a penalty shootout defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup. However Frank Lampard and Chelsea fans have found many reasons to be positive as they played well until the first goal at Old Trafford and were arguably the better team in Istanbul. The return of N’Golo Kante was a major plus and the Blues created the better chances. The manager will be hoping that all of these positives come together in front of the Chelsea faithful for the Blues to get their first win of the season.

Leicester played out a goalless draw against Wolves in their opening game and Brendan Rodgers will be disappointed that they couldn’t make their domination count. The Foxes had 70% possession in the game but were unable to breakdown a resolute Wolves defence and had VAR to thank for not losing the game outright as Leander Dendoncker’s goal was ruled out upon review.

In team news, Chelsea could welcome back Antonio Rudiger into central defence as he looks to have recovered from a knee injury. Kurt Zouma is the player most likely to make way having had a difficult start to the new season. Andreas Christensen will be assessed closer to the game having limped off during the game with Liverpool, with Chelsea light on options at the back after the sale of David Luiz to Arsenal. Midfielder Willian could also return to bolster Lampard’s attacking options but Callum Hudson-Odoi remains out with an Achilles injury.

Leicester only have to deal with the ankle injury to Filip Benkovic which has ruled him out of this game but there are no other reported injuries. Dennis Praet is pushing for a starting berth having secured an £18m transfer to the Foxes on deadline day..

Recent head to heads between these teams have been tight with Leicester actually coming out on top last season. A Jamie Vardy strike secured a 1-0 victory for the Foxes at Stamford Bridge with the two teams playing out a 0-0 draw at the King Power Stadium. This shows how much Chelsea struggle against Leicester and this certainly won’t be a straightforward affair for the Blues.
