Stamford Bridge

Punter's Pick

Unsurprisingly Chelsea start this game as strong favourites and with their record over the years this status is justified. However Newcastle will look at their wins over Tottenham and Manchester United and feel that they could add another notable result against one of the top teams. We feel the Blues will have too much for the Magpie’s in this game and the markets offering the most value is the over corners market. Bet365 have priced over 9 corners at 8/13 and with Chelsea likely to dominate the game, this has a high likelihood of coming in.

Chelsea welcome Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge with the two teams currently occupying spots at opposite ends of the table. Chelsea seem to be getting used to Frank Lampard’s methods after a shaky start with Newcastle starting this game just outside the relegation zone.

Chelsea come into this game on the back of four straight wins in all competitions including league victories over Brighton and Southampton. An impressive Champions League victory away at Lille shows that Lampard is now able to setup his teams to play against a variety of opposition and he will be hoping that his team can continue their charge to finish in the top four. The start of the season was certainly a tough one but one defeat in seven Premier League games shows their progress and the Blues put in an impressive performance away at Southampton last time out, securing a 4-1 win. Most pleasing for Blues fans will be that goals are coming from different parts of the pitch without an over reliance on one player and a run of favourable fixtures could see them extend that run further.

Newcastle have had a tough start winning just two of their nine games in all competitions. But Steve Bruce has plenty of reasons to be positive as they have proven difficult to beat at times and an impressive 1-0 home victory against Manchester United last time out will have increased team confidence. Both their league wins in fact have been standout results as they secured a 1-0 victory away at Tottenham courtesy of a Joelinton goal and Matthew Longstaff’s strike from range saw them take three points against United. But they have been prone to defensive errors and a punishing 5-0 defeat to Leicester City shows that there is still work to be done if they are to avoid a season long relegation battle.

In team news, Chelsea will welcome back midfield enforcer N’Golo Kante after he missed the game against Southampton with a muscular injury. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger could also return to bolster their defensive options but Emerson remains out with a thigh injury.

Newcastle have reported no fresh injury concerns ahead of this game and could reward the same starting lineup that beat Manchester United by naming an unchanged team. Isaac Hayden does remain suspended while Matt Ritchies remains out with an ankle injury.

In recent years Chelsea have dominated this fixture winning five out of their last seven meetings in all competitions. The Blues won both games last season with a 2-1 scoreline with Pedro and Willian securing the points at Stamford Bridge.
