Goodison Park

Punter's Pick

In the markets, Arsenal are being offered at a generous 27/20 with Bet365. Having been dominant against the Toffees, this does look like a value bet. Over 9 corners also looks well priced at 5/6 when the last game finished on 14 corners. In the player markets, you can back Aubameyang to score at any time at 10/11 as he continues his push as a potential Golden Boot winner.

Everton play Arsenal at Goodison Park as both managers are looking to finish strong in their debut seasons. Silva has had a mixed season but will be looking to ensure he can secure a top-half finish, whilst Unai Emery’s first season will be a success if he can secure Champions League football having succeeded Arsene Wenger.

Everton are on a good run of late, having lost just once in their last five games. The Toffee’s impressively neutralised Liverpool for a 0-0 draw and have recently beaten Chelsea at home and West Ham away. Silva has looked to ensure that his team don’t get complacent again having led 2-0 at Newcastle for the game to end in a 3-2 defeat. The team have managed two clean sheets in a row since that game and will feel that they can mix it with the big boys on their day. With this game and others against top teams such as Tottenham and Manchester United to come, Silva can assess how far the team have come over the season and see what enforcements are required for next season.

Arsenal have been on an excellent run in the league having not tasted defeat since early February when they lost 3-1 to champions Manchester City. Since then they have won five and drawn one with a notable 2-0 victory over Manchester United and drawing a game with Tottenham which they should have won. It is likely that Emery will have to go strong in this game in order to leapfrog rivals Tottenham into third spot despite having one eye on the Europa League quarter-final tie with Napoli.

In team news, Everton are expected to keep the same lineup that secured victory over West Ham last time out. Colombian international Yerry Mina is the only one missing through injury and it is unlikely that Marco Silva will drop Jordan Pickford, despite reports coming out of the Enland man being involved in a scuffle.

Arsenal have a few more concerns ahead of this game, with Granit Xhaka and Laurent Koscielny both doubts due to injury and Lucas Torreira remaining out due to suspension. Aaron Ramsey is expected to feature despite being substituted last time out due to injury.

Historically, this is a fixture that Arsenal have dominated, with Everton winning just once in their last nine meetings. Arsenal put five past the Toffees in both fixtures last season and won the reverse fixture 2-0 thanks to two goals in three minutes from Lacazette and Aubameyang. But Silva has managed to turn things around and had much more success against the bigger teams.

He will be hoping that the potential of winning a cup for Arsenal will prove a distraction which can allow him to strengthen his grip on a top half finish.
