Punter's Pick

Everton host bottom club Norwich City in a game between two of the Premier League’s strugglers. Both sides are in need of three points as they hover in and around the relegation zone and a loss could heap huge pressure on each manager as the season approaches the turn of the year.

Everton are starting to have a bit of a turnaround under Marco Silva and have lost just once in their last five games in all competitions. A 2-0 win over Watford propelled the Toffee’s into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and they secured a point against Tottenham courtesy of Cenk Tosun’s late header. Prior to the international break Tom Davies and Richarlison both struck to hand the Merseysiders all three points against Southampton and this has helped keep some of the wolves at bay. Fans and pundits both agree that Everton should be higher up the table given their team on paper but injuries to some key players has hindered their progress, but signs are now emerging of the team getting used to Silva’s style. The manager still has to figure out who will be spearheading his attack as there has been much inconsistency in who starts up front, with the likes of Calvert-Lewin, Cenk Tosun, Moise Kean and Theo Walcott all being used. If someone can start scoring regularly then the likes of Sigurdsson, Richarlison and Iwobi provide plenty of creativity from midfield which should propel them up the table.

Norwich are currently four points adrift from safety having not won a game in their last seven games which has included six defeats. Glimpses of the teams capability were shown when they beat Newcastle 3-1 in their second game and then shocked champions Manchester City at home. But despite the initial fanfare over Teemu Pukki and the impact he could have this season, Norwich have not scored a goal on the road since their opening day loss to Liverpool, where Pukki got a consolation goal in a 4-1 loss. With games coming up against teams in and around them in the table, the manager has to figure out how best to support Pukki as too much pressure on the Finnish international could cost them dearly in the end. Norwich fans will certainly be hoping he can discover his goalscoring form and Pukki himself will be in high spirits having helped his country into their first major tournament in their history. This could be the tonic to help reignite Pukki and Norwich’s season.

In team news, Everton will conduct late assessments on Bernard and Fabian Delph who are pushing to be fit for the game. Moise Kean will be involved in the squad on Saturday despite being dropped for attending a team meeting late. There aren’t any other injury concerns for Marco Silva ahead of this encounter.

Norwich’s Josip Drmic could be out for up to eight weeks having suffered a muscle fibre injury. Jamal Lewis is also unavailable for the visitors but Kenny McLean and Teemu Pukki have recovered from minor knocks.

Everton unsurprisingly start this game as favourites and there is little value in backing an outright win. We do feel however that the price for Everton winning by two goals or more is generous with Bet365 – currently priced at 21/20. Norwich have lost their last three games by two goals or more and having not scored an away goal since the opening day of the season, this bet has a high probability of coming through.
