Goodison Park

Punter's Pick

Everton’s superior quality all over the pitch should tell, and they can edge a tight and cagey affair and win by exactly one goal at an interesting looking 5/2 with Bet365. Under 2.5 goals is ⅘ with the same firm and should be given serious consideration as well given the goal shy nature of both teams so far this season.

Everton play host to newly promoted Sheffield United at Goodison Park on Saturday in a clash of two sides already proving to be inconsistent in performances and results.

Early season optimism evaporation on Merseyside?

With significant investment in new signings over the summer backed by an ambitious owner and benefactor, Everton fans were hoping for a fast start to the season to back their optimism. However two defeats in their last three games has already left them marooned in mid-table, and on the evidence of early season performances, they look anything but top six contenders.

Part of their early season problems has been to find a combination at the top end of the pitch that can unlock opposition defences. With just five goals scored in five league games so far, the Toffees have hardly been pulling up trees, especially when considering three of those goals came in a single match against Wolves earlier in the season. It will be interesting on what combination and formation Marco Silva will eventually settle on if he is to get the best of an undoubtedly talented squad.

Reality beginning to set in for Blades

After picking up four points out of the first available six this season, the Blades looked like they were already acquitting themselves well on their return to the Premier League. However just one point in the next three games has given the new boys a reality check about what life in the Premier League is all about.

The one point gained in their last three games did come away at Chelsea, where United came from 2-0 down to snatch a point in the dying moments. They will be wary of affording Everton a similar headstart, but will take heart from having grabbed a point already against one of the ‘Big Six’.

Team News

Everton could be without key forward Richarlison, the Brazilian forward has a hamstring niggle and may not be risked from the start, or may miss out entirely. Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Jonas Lossl, and Andre Gomes also look set to miss the fixture Lossl is still recovering from a calf strain whilst Andre Gomes has an issue with his ribs and will not be risked.

Sheffield United will be without forward Billy Sharp. Their talisman was sent off against Southampton so misses their next three fixtures after receiving a straight red, leaving problems at the top of the pitch.

Everton to just edge

With both teams struggling to find the net regularly and struggling for confidence, this is likely to be a tight and cagey affair with chances and goals at a premium. The Blades have shown they can defend for long periods and frustrate more illustrious teams, but their lack of quality in the final third is likely to be a real problem as the season progresses. Everton will believe they can fashion enough chances over the 90 minutes to unlock the Blades’ defence and claim a much needed three points.
