Craven Cottage

Punter's Pick

Fulham are 13/10 to win with Ladbrokes, and both Fulham to win and both teams to score 21/5 with the same firm. Fulham are unlikely to keep a clean sheet but may have enough firepower to get the job done, so a 2-1 win at 9/1 with Bet365 looks appealing. For those who believe lightning can strike twice, a repeat of their 2-2 draw from earlier this season is also an interesting 16/1 with Bet365.

Fulham resume their battle for Premier League survival on Tuesday, with games fast starting to run out in their bid for safety. Their opponents Brighton look comfortable in mid-table as the hosts look enviously upwards towards them in the league table.

Sinking feeling at The Cottage

The appointment of canny Italian manager Claudio Ranieri was supposed to signal the start of a revival for the Cottagers, with results and performances expected to step forward. However, several months into his tenure and now sitting seven points from safety, fans would be hard pressed to find anything positive that has come out of the change of management. In Ranieri’s defence, the problems seem to stem from a muddled summer transfer window, with around a dozen new signings coming into the club with no thought as to how they would integrate into a successful core that got the team promoted. The upshot has been confused tactics, an unsettled and leaky back four, and the continuity and fluidity of the promotion winning season completely eroded.

Brighton remain solid

In contrast, Brighton have remained solid in their second season back in the top flight, with manager Chris Hughton retaining the core of his squad and gradually giving chances to his summer signings, which ended up numbering ten in total. Key performers such as Glen Murray, Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy have again been consistent this campaign and make Brighton generally difficult opponents to play against. The summer will bring interesting decisions for the club, do they go for bigger signings and look to push on into the top ten of the PL, or stick to spending within their means and quietly keep ticking over?

Earlier clash systematic of Fulham’s problems

The two sides met earlier this season in an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Amex Stadium, with the result and performance proving to be an early insight into how Fulham’s season would develop. After leading 2-0 with just under 30 minutes to go, Fulham contrived to let Brighton back into the match and had to settle for a share of the spoils, when so much more looked possible. Ironically it was leading goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic who conceded a late penalty to let Brighton level up, having put his side firmly in control with what was at the time his fourth goal in three games. The subsequent sixteen games have brought just four more league goals, the lack of goals from the Serbian striker a major concern for Fulham.

Fulham desperate for a result, and may just get it

Brighton come into this game off the back of a winless three game run, with defeats by Liverpool and Manchester United followed by a tame 0-0 draw against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup. They generally are a team not to fall apart or be easy to play against, but with nine day period to prepare, Fulham backed by a home crowd should come out flying at the visitors. These are the types of games Fulham must start winning if they are to have any chance of remaining in the PL, and a fast start and greater concentration at the back could see them over the line in this clash.
