Craven Cottage

Punter's Pick

Fulham look a highly tempting 7/5 with Bet365 to take all three points, and with the Cottagers coming into this game winning back to back league games a third straight win could well be on the cards. Aleksandar Mitrovic broke his goal drought last week and can be back to find the net again at anytime at 5/4, again with Bet365.

The battle of last season’s promoted clubs sees already relegated Fulham entertain on the brink Cardiff City, with the visitors desperate for a win to reignite their survival hopes.

Cardiff on brink after tough run of games

With just one win in their last five games, Cardiff go into this game with little margin of error left, sitting three points outside the relegation zone with an inferior goal difference to all their closet rivals. Unfortunately for Cardiff their last five games have featured playing against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool, and whilst they didn’t disgrace themselves against their most illustrious opponents, they were unable to scrape a point or two that could prove vital come the end of the season.

With Manchester United away to come on the last day of the season, they will realistically need at least four, if not maximum points from this fixture and their next one against Crystal Palace to have any chance of hauling themselves out of the relegation spots. With Brighton having Manchester City at home on the last day of the season and Arsenal away still to play, all is not lost for the Bluebirds if they can come away with a victory in this fixture.

Fulham producing some form at last

With back to back league wins, Fulham have finally shown some of the football that was expected of them earlier in the season, when their stylish promoted squad was added to with a £100m+ outlay on new signings. A rousing 2-0 home victory over Everton followed by their first away win of the season at Bournemouth has at least lifted spirits at the Cottage, as Scott Parker’s men prepare for life outside the Premier League.

However even with those back to back wins, Fulham have still only manage to chalk up six league victories all season, hardly surprising then that they are heading straight back to the Championship.

Team News

Fulham defender Alfie Mawson is in contention to play for the first time since sustaining a bizzare knee injury whilst putting his boots on in training. Tom Cairney should be available after missing the win against Bournemouth following the birth of his child, but Andre Schurrle could be absent from the squad for the same reason.

Cardiff midfielder Joe Ralls tore his hamstring in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last week and will not play again this season. He joins the likes of Sol Bamba and Callum Paterson who will also not play again this season. Harry Arter may be in contention after a calf strain and will be assessed.

Desperate Bluebirds to come unstuck?

With Fulham enjoying a late renaissance as they wind down their short-lived return to the Premier League, this could turn into a tough afternoon for Cardiff City. Despite Fulham not having much to play for, this will allow them the freedom to express themselves and with Cardiff fighting for their lives, the tension and nerves may filter into their football. Cardiff have produced the occasional win on their travels so should not be totally written off, however this may be the game that could almost seal their fate.
