Craven Cottage

Punter's Pick

Liverpool start this game as overwhelming favourites and there is little value in an outright win. Instead it may be worth going for a -1 handicap on goals for Liverpool, which has been priced at 4/6 by Bet365. A -3 handicap on corners for Liverpool is also well priced at 21/20 by the same bookmaker.

Fulham welcome Liverpool to Craven Cottage and enter the game in dire straits having lost their last six games and winning just one in the last eleven. Liverpool will be buzzing on the back of their exploits in the Champions League and will be looking to get the points wrapped up early in a bid to rest key players with their fixtures coming up.

Fulham’s plight certainly does look gloomy with the Londoners currently sitting 13 points behind Burnley who are placed just outside the relegation zone. With the players they have, Fulham would have expected a better season than the one they are having, but an over reliance on striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and defensive indiscipline have not allowed them to string any results together. Management must have hoped for a galvanising effect when Claudio Ranieri was sacked, but Scott Parker has not been able to change their fortunes. He has however stated that he feels Fulham could get out of this position given the amount of points still available to play for. But 11 losses in 12 games tell another story and planning may already be under way for a season in the Championship.

Liverpool enter the game unbeaten in their last 11 games in all competitions but were seen as having a bit of a crisis after they drew five games in seven matches. After the disappointing 0-0 draw against rivals Everton, the Reds got their league campaign back on track with a 4-2 win against Burnley and then followed it up with an amazing 3-1 win away at Bayern Munich. Despite the struggles of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane has come to the fore and been the driving force in keeping Liverpool’s campaign going both in the league and in Europe. Virgil Van Dijk also provided another defensive masterclass in helping the Reds go through to the quarter-finals.

Fulham have had their struggles in this fixture having not beaten Liverpool for almost six years. They enjoyed a double over the Reds back in the 2011/12 season when they won both fixtures 1-0, with an own goal from Martin Skrtel in one and a late Clint Dempsey in the other. However, Liverpool won the reverse fixture 2-0 earlier in the season with goals from Mo Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri. Fulham held out until the 41st minute but Liverpool’s dominance over the game with 73% possession told in the end and the points were secured.

In team news, Scott Parker has no new injury concerns ahead of this game. German Andre Schurrle is back in training after a virus and will be pressing for a starting berth. Alfie Dawson is currently out but hopeful of being back before the end of the season. It is likely that Parker will persist with as much of the team that played Leicester in the last game, which means that Ryan Babel will most likely play against his former club.

Liverpool will be without captain Jordan Henderson who hobbled off in the win in Munich after 13 minutes. Fabinho is likely to fill his place and play alongside Wijnaldum and James MIlner as Naby Keita also recovers from a slight knock that kept him out of the team in Germany. However with Liverpool dominating the first game in terms of possession, Klopp may decide to have a more creative operator in behind the front three, meaning a possible start for Adam Lallana or Xherdan Shaqiri.
