Punter's Pick

Arsenal are a nailed on 8/13 to win with Bet365, and to be winning at half-time and full-time at 6/4 with the same firm looks good value. Arsenal with a -1 goal handicap to win at 8/5 with Bet365 also demands attention.

Embattled Huddersfield Town take on Champions League chasing Arsenal on Saturday, with the hosts sinking closer and closer each passing week to relegation.

New manager, same story for the Terriers

The situation looks bleak for Huddersfield – even hypothetically doubling their current points total would still leave them inside the relegation places, a stark illustration of the almost hopeless situation they find themselves in. New manager Jan Siewert has been putting a brave face on the situation, outwardly saying the right things that he believes his team can still avoid the drop. Privately he must already have one eye on the life in the Championship and plotting a route back to the Premier League, as their two season stay in the top flight slowly drifts to its conclusion.

Their last eleven leagues (including two defeats from two for Siewert) have yielded just one point, with their last win coming back on November 25th against Wolves, hardly surprising then that they prop up the league. With just five league goals at home all season, they are lowest scorers at home, and not surprisingly have the lowest points total, with just five points amassed at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Arsenal look to build momentum

Despite three defeats in their last six league games, Arsenal are still in touch with the Champions League spots, currently trailing Chelsea by just three points. With home games against Bournemouth and Southampton to follow, they will see this game as a real chance to go on a three game winning streak leading into a crunch North London Derby.

A chastening 3-1 defeat last time out at Manchester City still emphasized the work needed to bridge the gap with the elite clubs in the Premier League. Familiar failings at the back remain their achilles’ heel. This shouldn’t be a problem against goal shy Huddersfield, who have only mustered thirteen goals all season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with fifteen goals has scored two more than the entire Huddersfield team, and will eyeing more strikes as he chases the Premier League Golden Boot.

Team News

Rob Holding and Héctor Bellerín are out for the season with serious knee injuries and Sokratis Papastathopoulos won’t be back until next month, leaving Unai Emery with continuing problems in defence. Shkodran Mustafi went off injured at Manchester City last weekend but is expected to return, whilst at right-back Emery will be hoping Ainsley Maitland-Niles will be fit to return after missing the City fixture. Granit Xhaka also missed that defeat through injury but he too should be back, with Barcelona loanee Denis Suárez also pushing for a starting berth.

Jan Siewert may shuffle his pack again as he looks to snap their winless streak, with Mathias Jørgensen who was surprisingly left out in the heavy defeat at Chelsea returning to the starting XI. Ironically the defender is their leading goalscorer this season with three goals.

Routine day at the office for Arsenal

Despite labouring to a 1-0 victory against Huddersfield at the Emirates earlier in the season, Arsenal should cruise to a routine victory against the hosts. Huddersfield to their credit do not get taken apart often at home, but their lack of goals means one or two is usually enough for their opponents to leave with all three points. Saturday should prove no different and Arsenal simply have too much guile and quality in the final third not to be able to fashion enough chances to claim maximum points.
