Punter's Pick

Bournemouth do go in to this game as favourites and are priced at 6/5 with Bet365 for victory. This seems like a good proposition as despite their troubles, Bournemouth should have too much for bottom club Huddersfield. Bournemouth to score two goals or more is also priced at 11/8 and could be worth a punt with the likes of Josh King and Ryan Fraser likely to start.

Huddersfield play Bournemouth in a game which is a must win for the Terrier’s if they are even to dream about pulling off a miracle escape. The team however must feel resigned to being relegated which could see them throw caution to the wind and really attack Bournemouth. Eddie Howe’s men are winless in their last five games and need a result themselves if they want to continue their push for a top half finish.

Huddersfield seem certain for relegation after their amazing season last year in which David Wagner kept them up. There would be no fairytale this season as the popular German left by mutual consent, with the Terrier’s going winless in 15 games. They will however take hope from their performance against high-flying Wolves, where a 90th minute goal from Steve Mounie capped off a spirited performance. They narrowly missed out in their last game, losing 1-0 to Brighton, but the team certainly have tightened up their defence which will fare well for them next season.

Bournemouth went through the whole of February without registering a win, losing four out of their last five games. Eddie Howe will point to the quality of opposition as they lost games against Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City in that time. But consistency has been a struggle all year for the Cherries and despite holding City in the last game for 55 minutes, they managed no shots on goal and conceded an amazing 82% of possession. This may have been influenced by the 5-1 hammering they took against Arsenal, but Eddie Howe hasn’t quite got the balance right, as either an overly attacking approach ends up leaking goals and an ultra-defensive style sees them pose no threat whatsoever.

The reverse fixture between these two earlier in the season saw Bournemouth win 2-1, with all of the games goals coming in the first half. Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser had put them 2-0 up only for Terence Kongolo to pull one back to give Huddersfield hope. The Cherries however were able to hold on for the win and will be looking to repeat the trick this time around.

A key part of their victory was the form of England man Callum Wilson, but he is likely to miss out again with the same hamstring injury that has kept him out for six weeks. Bournemouth have struggled with injuries and key players such as Steve Cook, Junior Stanislas, Lewis Cook and Dominic Solanke are all set to be missing on Saturday.

Jan Siewert has injury concerns of his own with the German awaiting news of the knock sustained by midfielder Jonathan Hogg. Adama Diakhaby is out with a hamstring strain, while a calf injury is likely to keep Isaac Mbenza out. A red card for Tommy Smith will see him miss the game through suspension.
