Punter's Pick

Bet365 are offering a generous 8/11 on Manchester City to score over 2.5 goals. Considering their recent form and the hammering that was dished out to Huddersfield earlier in the season, this seem like a very good bet for City to score a minimum of three goals against a managerless Huddersfield.

Huddersfield welcome champions Manchester City in a fixture which many feel is already a foregone conclusion in City’s favour. The Terrier’s lost their manager this week after David Wagner left by mutual consent and come in to the game on a 10 game winless run. City on the other hand are in red hot form, having won their top of the table clash against Liverpool and annihilated lower league opposition in both cup competitions. A comfortable 3-0 victory against Wolves further cemented their form and now it would seem like a case of how many City want to score against Huddersfield rather than it being something of a contest.

Huddersfield’s owners certainly will hope that a change at the top can have a galvanising effect and that their players can rise to the challenge of hosting the best team in the land. A 0-0 draw last week against Cardiff away bucked the trend of nine straight defeats and is something the players can draw confidence from. In fact The Terriers have often lost their games by the odd goal which certainly shows that they aren’t pushovers and that teams are finding them difficult to play. The issue has been their ability to score and take points in games in which they have played well.

Man City will look to keep the pressure on leaders Liverpool and have bounced back well after back to back defeats against Crystal Palace and Leicester. Guardiola’s men have scored an amazing 24 goals in their last five games in all competition and seem to have found their groove again. This will send shockwaves throughout the division and Huddersfield will be trying to figure out how to curtail City’s attacking threat, knowing that the champions are likely to dominate possession for long periods of time.

Huddersfield are without Abdelhamid Sabiri and Aaron Mooy which has restricted their ability to go forward and get the goals they desperately need. City on the other hand are near full strength having seen players like David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne gain valuable match time. The timely return of Fernandinho has allowed the attacking players to go forward and be creative knowing they are well protected at the back.

Huddersfield have not won against City in their last six fixtures and suffered a heavy defeat of 6-1 at The Etihad earlier in the season. An inspired Sergio Aguero scored a hattrick and the game was almost completely played in Huddersfield’s half as City registered 77% possession. A similar scoreline could be on the cards again as City have all their attacking options to choose from and their quest for back to back titles ensures that there will be no let up when they visit John Smith’s stadium.
