Anfield

Punter's Pick

With both teams looking shaky in defence, Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 13/8 looks appealing with Bet365. Sadio Mane has been in impressive goal scoring form in recent weeks and is 9/2 to score first or 21/20 to score anytime, also with Bet365.

Liverpool host Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday, with pressure in the title race being cranked up with easy passing week as we enter the final third of an enthralling season.

Liverpool beginning to crack?

The Reds come into this fixture with the media, pundits and even some fans fearing that Jurgen Klopp’s are beginning to show the first signs of cracking in the title race. Usually so adept at putting away teams outside of the top six, their last two fixtures have seen them stumble to nervous 1-1 draws against Leicester City and West Ham United. In truth they were second best in both games and were lucky to escape without further damage. Prior to that their last league success was another tension filled afternoon at Anfield, as they edged past Crystal Palace 4-3 with a large element of luck in several of their goals.

The atmosphere at Anfield also seems to have turned from one of enjoyment and cautious optimism from the hunt of chasing down Manchester City, to the sudden realization the title is in their grasp. With history weighing heavily on the club, the mood at home games has become tense, nervous and turgid. Players seem to be playing in fear that they will be remembered as the latest in a long line of ‘nearly men’ who came close to ending the title drought, but couldn’t quite get over the line.

Bournemouth ideal opposition to rebuild confidence against?

Liverpool’s opponents on Saturday could prove to be a case of the right team at the right time. Bournemouth have not covered themselves in glory on their travels this season, with just three wins in twelve attempts, and have suffered some serious damage to opponents in the top six. Tottenham put the Cherries to the sword 5-0 back in December, which was quickly followed by a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Manchester United. Manchester City also strolled to a 3-1 victory over Eddie Howe’s team at the Etihad, whilst Liverpool have dismissed their opponents 4-0 at the Vitality Stadium earlier in the season.

Bournemouth’s below par away form is underpinned by a defence that leaks far too many goals on its travels, 27 already so far this season at the alarming rate of just over two goals per game. Only relegation threatened Fulham have a worse away defence in the PL this season, so it will be difficult to see how they can contain a Liverpool team looking to get back on track.

Clyne ineligible, Salah to shine?

Bournemouth’s problems could mount on Saturday with Liverpool loanee Nathaniel Clyne ineligible to play against his parent club, and long-term absentee Simon Francis unlikely to feature again this season. This leaves a gaping hole at right-back, leaving Eddie Howe looking for a creative solution to avoid leaving a yawning gap for the Reds to exploit. With Mo Salah looking to find some form after a couple of quiet outings against Leicester City and West Ham, whatever makeshift option Eddie Howe goes with could be in a for a long afternoon.

Liverpool to be too strong

Despite their recent mini blip in from, Liverpool should come roaring out of the tracks at Bournemouth on Saturday. If the crowd can relax and not transmit so much anxiety to the players, it should be a fruitful afternoon for the Reds as they look to reclaim top spot temporarily from Manchester City. Bournemouth should fashion some chances of their own with the Reds’ defence looking shaky in recent games, but their porous defence will allow Klopp’s men plenty of chances of their own in what is likely to be an open and entertaining encounter.
