Anfield

Punter's Pick

Understandably Liverpool start this game as strong favourites but we feel that Leicester should be backed for a Double Chance at 13/8 with Bet365, where you win if they manage not to lose. Given the attacking prowess of Leicester’s frontline and their strong defence this could be a real possibility, especially after a challenging Champions League game for Liverpool where their star players played most of the game. We have also found that this game is highly conducive for the cards markets, with their last four Premier League games producing at least four cards or more. Bet365 are offering over 2.5 cards at 8/13 which is highly generous in our opinion.

League leaders Liverpool welcome Leicester City to Anfield with former manager Brendan Rodgers making a much anticipated return to his former club. Both teams have been in fine form and enjoy playing attacking football so fans will be hoping for a thrilling encounter between two teams that currently sit in first and third place respectively.

Liverpool come into this game having won all seven of their Premier League fixtures. Despite this there have been some concerns over their defence with the team leaking more goals than last season. Their thrilling Champions League victory over RB Salzburg on Wednesday night best illustrated this as the Reds had stormed into a three goal lead courtesy of Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and Mo Salah. However a poor second half performance saw the Austrian side level matters before a late Mo Salah winner settled things. To their credit the Reds have remained strong during some difficult spells and will be looking to increase the pressure on champions City who could sit eight points behind Liverpool come the start of their game.

Leicester City have only lost one game in all competitions this season and certainly are not showing any signs of distress since losing Harry Maguire to Manchester United. They have already had some impressive results including an away draw at Chelsea and a home win over Tottenham which was followed up by a 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle. This form and level of performances is a far cry from the days of Claude Puel and this has been most illustrated by the form of Jamie Vardy, who is currently joint with Harry Kane in the scorers charts with five goals. Johnny Evans has been excellent in defence alongside their new cult hero Caglar Soyuncu, with the Turkish defender ensuring that Harry Maguire has not been missed. Brendan Rodgers will be keen to get one over on his former employers despite remembering his team at Anfield fondly.

In team news Liverpool will be hoping that goalkeeper Allison will be close to full fitness and potentially even be available to start. Joel Matip has also been an injury concern with Joe Gomez starting their Champions League game in midweek. Xherdan Shaqiri will remain out having previously suffered an injury in training.

Leicester City have been boosted by the news that James Maddison will be fit despite missing the game against Newcastle with an ankle injury. Only Matty James remains on the sidelines allowing Brendan Rodgers to pick from a near full-strength squad.

In recent meetings between these sides Liverpool have had the better of this fixture, but have also struggled at times with points being taken off them. Goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino managed to secure the win at the King Power but an early Sadio Mane strike was cancelled out by a Harry Maguire header at Anfield. This was one of the results that turned the title race last season as Liverpool had opened up a gap over Manchester City but a string of draws including this one dented their title ambitions.
