Etihad Stadium

Punter's Pick

Manchester City start this game as overwhelming favourites and there is very little value in backing an outright City win. However given their form in recent games Bet365 are offering even(1/1) odds on a City goal handicap of -2, meaning they must win by three or more goals. We also think the corners market is likely to materialise and there are again generous odds of 5/6 for over 10 corners. Both games went over this increment last season so this is excellent value for a game being played at the Etihad.

Manchester City welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Etihad Stadium as they look to add to their five game winning streak in all competitions. Wolves have more than enough quality to trouble the champions and will be looking to build on their first Premier League win of the season.

Manchester City have been in dominant form of late averaging almost four goals a game in their last five matches. They have progressed well in the League Cup and Champions League after despatching Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night and smashed eight past Watford in the Premier League. There were concerns over their defence after the injury to Aymeric Laporte coupled with a 3-2 loss to Norwich City, but Pep Guardiola has managed to plug that gap with Fernandinho stepping in. Since their solitary loss, the champions have only conceded one goal in their five subsequent games and will be looking to continue that form on Sunday afternoon.

Wolves finally managed to get their first Premier League win of the campaign when they beat Watford 2-0. The season has been a long one for Wolves due to their Europa League campaign starting early and it is that competition within which they have excelled. There were concerns as to whether a small squad could handle both competitions and despite playing well in many games, they struggled to get the points on the board. After the result at Watford, Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping his team can put the type of run together that saw them finish seventh last season.

In team news City will be missing their talisman Kevin De Bruyne who is out with a groin injury. John Stones is also set to miss out so it will be interesting to see if Pep Guardiola goes again with Fernandinho in defence or changes formations to allow Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy to setup alongside Nicolas Otamendi. Riyad Mahrez has been in fine form and will be battling it out with Bernardo Silva for a spot on the wings as Raheem Sterling is expected to come back into the starting lineup having been on the bench against Dinamo Zagreb.

Wolves will be without one of their main strikers in Diogo Jota who has been ruled out with an ankle injury. Otherwise manager Nuno Espirito Santo has a fully fit squad to choose from and will be relying on Raul JImenez to hold up play and allow the likes of Adama Traore and Ruben Neves to get up and join the attacks.

Although in recent meetings Manchester City have been the dominant team, Wolves be buoyed by the fact that they managed to hold the champions to a 1-1 draw at Molineux last term. Willy Boly’s goal had Wolves on track for a shock win but Aymeric Laporte scored to break Wolves hearts. The return game at the Etihad was more straightforward as the champions won 3-0, with Gabriel Jesus bagging a brace.
