Old Trafford

Punter's Pick

Historically Manchester United have dominated this fixture although Watford have put in some good performances over the years losing by the odd goal in each game last season. However the reverse fixture earlier in the season saw the Hornets go one better and beat United 2-0. The team will be difficult to breakdown and we feel that backing the ‘draw or Watford’ market provides value at 5/4 with Bet365. Games between these two tend to be tight and under 2.5 goals should be backed at 10/11 with over 3.5 cards also a good shout at 5/6.

Manchester United host Watford with both teams battling at opposite ends of the table. United will be looking to maintain their push for a Champions League place while Watford look to continue their resurgence under Nigel Pearson and avoid relegation. This is a huge clash for both and is likely to be an explosive encounter on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United come into this game on the back of an impressive away win at Chelsea. Two headed goals from Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire secured the points and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have been pleased at the way his team handled the threat of the Blues. This game however provides a different test as United have struggled to break down teams that sit lower in the league and who set up to contain their threat. Often the team has been bereft of ideas and not been able to play in behind those who have a solid defence. This is the area Solskjaer will be looking to improve as games against the big teams who dominate possession have proven easier especially with United’s abilities on the counter-attack. The Red Devil’s will be hoping that the acquisition of Bruno Fernandes could help them unlock the door and get their attacking players into more dangerous positions to score and the Portuguese has adapted well to life at Old Trafford.

Watford have stuttered of late after a brilliant start to life under Nigel Pearson. The Hornets have not won any of their last five competitive games but have still performed well and will be confident coming into this one. They have dropped points to late goals against Aston Villa and Everton who both scored 90th minute winners and were leading against Brighton away when a 78th minute own goal deprived them of all three points. The manager will be keen to drill his team to maintain their focus for the full 90 minutes if they are to avoid relegation but the form of many players has been good so they will be fancying their chances of avoiding the drop. The return of Troy Deeney has provided much of the spark and the power of Doucoure from midfield has helped drive the team forward. Goals have still been an issue for Watford but they will have been buoyed by the return of Danny Welbeck last time out as he will add another dimension to their attack in the coming weeks.

In team news Manchester United will be without star striker Marcus Rashford who could be out for the rest of the season. Scott McTominay has been training and will be hoping to be fit for this one as is Victor Lindelof. Paul Pogba is pushing to be part of the matchday squad but his ongoing tussle for a move away could rule him out.
