Punter's Pick

Burnley’s recent performances both home and away have been excellent, and they should be backed at 5/6 with Bet365 to either come away with a draw or win. Over 2.5 goals also seems perfectly feasible with in form attackers on both teams, and can be backed at 6/5, again with Bet365. Betfair has Miguel Almiron to get off the mark and score anytime at 7/2, while red hot Chris Wood can be backed to score anytime at 11/4 with the same firm.

Tuesday’s round of Premier League fixtures throws up an intriguing clash, as in-form Newcastle United take on Burnley, with both sides looking to move further out of the relegation battle.

Burnley the team to fear in 2019?

Burnley go into the fixture sitting six points clear of the relegation places, following a fine run of performances which has seen them just one of two teams in the top flight to be undefeated in 2019. The run includes going to Old Trafford and coming within a whisker of winning (eventually drawing 2-2), and defeating title chasing Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Sean Dyche’s men have rediscovered all the qualities that made them a team no one looked forward to facing last season – well organised in defence, tenacious in the tackle, and crucially in goalkeeper Tom Heaton arguably one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League. Heaton’s impressive performances since replacing Joe Hart in goal has coincided with Burnley’s strong resurgence in form, pushing Hart and Nick Pope out of the picture. Such as been his level of performances he would fancy his chances of putting Jordan Pickford under severe pressure for the England No 1 jersey as well in the next round of international fixtures.

Newcastle aiming for four in four at home
After disposing of Huddersfield Town with relative ease in their last home fixture, Newcastle will be looking to continue their impressive home form and make it four in four as they look to move further clear of relegation troubles. With four points between themselves and the relegation places, they will be looking to capitalize on their current rich rein of form at St James’ Park. The nature of the fixture list means only five of their last eleven fixtures will be at home including the visit of Burnley, and with Liverpool still to come they will be keen to take something from this fixture.

In form strikers for both teams

A statistical quirk means that this game will feature three strikers all on eight goals this season – Salomon Rondon for Newcastle and Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood of Burnley. All three strikers have been in impressive form recently, helping their teams climb away from the relegation zone and proving once again having a goalscoring threat is crucial to staying up. Newcastle have also been perked up by the arrival of club record signing Miguel Almiron, who made his full debut in the win against Huddersfield on Saturday. The pacy attacker looked to have immediately forged an understanding with his teammates, and manager Rafa Benitez will be hoping he can provide the spark that not only keeps his team up this season, but helps them progress in the next campaign away from being in the relegation dogfight.

Close encounter between confident teams
With Newcastle’s excellent recent home form coming up against Burnley’s unbeaten league run in 2019, this is a really close clash. Both sides have in form players all over the pitch, particularly in attack, but Burnley’s defensive steel may be enough to blunt Newcastle and help them to a point or better in what will be a keenly contested clash.
