Carrow Road

Punter's Pick

Given the form of these two teams, it is difficult to say whether Chelsea should be strong favourites for a victory. On paper they have the stronger team and they have played well in all their games despite not securing a victory. Norwich however have given Liverpool a good game and dominated against Newcastle. Due to this, we feel Bet365 have offered odds at a generous level for a Blues victory and that they should be backed at 4/5. The Blues should have too much for the promoted team as they go all out for their first three points of the season. An alternative bet could be to back the over 3.5 goals market at 11/8 as both Norwich’s opening games have featured four goals or more.

Norwich host Chelsea in their second home game of the season and they will buzzing off the back of their first victory against Newcastle. Chelsea are still searching for their first win of the season and Frank Lampard will be anxious to get that monkey off his back since his return. This is likely to be an open game with lots of opportunities, with both teams confident of getting the three points.

Norwich have made an impressive return to the Premier League having taken four out of a possible six points in their first two games. Despite a 4-1 loss against Liverpool on the opening day, The Canaries had in fact created a lot of chances and dominated periods of the game. A lack of composure in front of goal had ultimately cost them but the Premier League had been introduced to Teemu Pukki. The Finnish striker scored Norwich’s consolation but showed glimpses of his talent and it was emphatically demonstrated against Newcastle where he scored a hattrick to secure the three points. The team will rely heavily on his goals this season and he looks to have the composure to deal with the expectation, already sitting on top of the scorer’s charts alongside Raheem Sterling.

Chelsea have had a difficult start to the new season despite playing well in all of their games thus far. They started as the better side against Manchester United but ended up on the end of a 4-0 scoreline whilst arguably being the better team against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup where they lost out on penalties. The first three points of Lampard’s tenure seemed to be coming against Leicester when they lead after a Mason Mount goal in the first 10 minutes only for Ndidi to equalise. The fact that Lampard has secured his first points as a manager will be a relief but the victory eludes him and this won’t be an easy game against a Norwich team that has performed well at home.

In team news, Norwich may look to give Ibrahim Amadou his debut as well as looking at Timm Klose and Christoph Zimmermann as options after their respective returns from injury. Onel Hernandez is out having sustained an ACL injury during a fall at home which is likely to keep him out for three months.

Chelsea need to make a key decision as to who partners Jorginho and Kante in midfield as well as who leads the attack up front. Mateo Kovacic has impressed as has Mason Mount and these two are the players that seem to be rotated around. Tammy Abraham also found himself out of the starting lineup after his penalty miss against Liverpool with Olivier Giroud starting against Leicester but failing to make an impact. One option could be the return of Willian whilst Ross Barkley will also be hoping for a starting berth. The Blues will be hoping to welcome back Antonio Rudiger from injury and although the game may have come too early for him to start, he is likely to play some part.

In recent meetings, these two did play in 2018 in the FA Cup where a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road was followed by a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in the replay. A last-gasp Jamal Lewis goal saw the game go into extra time, a period which saw Pedro and Alvaro Morata both sent off. The Blues eventually triumphed on penalties with Norwich last claiming a victory over Chelsea back in 1992.
