Bramall Lane

Punter's Pick

With Spurs installed as strong favourites, there isn’t much value in backing an outright win. However this contest has historically had a very high corner count, with the teams racking up 42 corners in their three fixtures last season, an average of 14 a game. We feel the price offered by Bet365 at 5/6 for over 10 corners is very generous and you can supplement this further by backing over 11 corners at 7/5.

Sheffield United welcome Southampton to Bramall Lane as they look to build on their impressive start back in the top flight. Southampton will be looking to leapfrog their rivals but will need to improve their away form, having won just four games in their last 19 games on the road.

Chris Wilder will be happy with the form Sheffield United have shown in their first four league games, picking up five points from a possible 12. Particularly pleasing for their manager and fans will be their resilience in grabbing a point away at Stamford Bridge despite trailing 2-0 at half time. A raising of the effort and energy levels was immediately apparent after the break as Callum Robinson helped halve the deficit a minute or so into the second half and then the United wingers induced a mistake from Kurt Zouma, who scored an 89th minute own-goal to give Sheffield United a share of the spoils. Despite this being a tough fixture, Sheffield United will be confident having beaten Crystal Palace at home as well as Blackburn 2-1 in the League Cup.

Southampton kicked off their season with two defeats on the bounce against Burnley and Liverpool but managed to turn the tide just before the international fixtures. A 2-0 away win at Brighton was followed up by a 1-0 away win at Fulham in the League Cup. But their standout result was a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, which they managed after falling a goal down to Daniel Jame’s 10th minute strike. However the Saints managed to pull this back after a towering header from Jaanik Vestergaard salvaged a point and provided some much needed confidence that the team could be a match for one of the big teams. With some tough games coming up, Ralph Hasenhuttl will be looking to get as many points on the board against teams in and around them in the league as points will be at a premium against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.

In team news Sheffield United are sweating on the fitness of David McGoldrick and Callum Robinson. Both picked up knocks during the international breaks and a hamstring injury to John Fleck is also being assessed.

For Southampton, star player Nathan Redmond remains out with an ankle injury whilst Kevin Danso is suspended. However they will be boosted by the news that Ryan Bertrand and Michael Obafemi are available for selection on Saturday.

These two teams haven’t played each other for almost five years so there isn’t much in the way of understanding a potential outcome based on recent meetings. However both have turned their performances around and had wins as well as respectable draws against big clubs, with Sheffield United gaining at draw against Chelsea and Southampton achieving the same result against Manchester United.
