St Mary’s Stadium

Punter's Pick

With both teams possessing the ability to play open attacking football, the corners market looks very attractive. Bet365 are offering evens (1/1) for over 10 corners, which is a market that has materialised in the last three encounters between these teams. Harry Kane is also priced at 4/5 to score any time, with the England man netting three times in his last four games.

Southampton welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the St Mary’s Stadium, with both teams desperately needing a win for their respective ambitions at opposite ends of the table. Southampton are loitering just two points above the relegation zone, with Tottenham just three points in front of Manchester United in their quest for a top three finish. A win here would go a long way to securing their Champions League ambitions for next season.

Southampton certainly have become more difficult to beat since the introduction of Ralph Hasenhuttl. The team went from the 2nd January to the 2nd February without losing a game, registering five draws and two wins. However turning draws into wins has been the problem and the team is now in a slump having lost three of their last four Premier League games. A 2-1 home loss to fellow strugglers Cardiff meant they lost the proverbial six pointer and a spirited performance at Old Trafford still ended in heartbreak, as a Romelu Lukaku ensured a 3-2 loss when they seemed on course for a point.

Tottenham have also had their struggles of late, going from Premier League contenders to potentially not making the top four in a matter of weeks. Back to back losses against Burnley and Chelsea were followed by a contentious 1-1 draw against Arsenal where they were behind and needed a dubious penalty from Harry Kane to rescue a point. Mauricio Pochettino will be buoyed by their midweek performance away to German leaders Borussia Dortmund, as Kane again scored to secure their passage in to the quarter-finals.

Spurs have had the better of this fixture, with the Saints last registering a victory almost three years ago. The reverse fixture in the season saw Tottenham run out 3-1 winners with goals from Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Heung-Min Son, despite Danny Ings getting a 90th minute consolation.

In team news, Southampton will be hoping to welcome back Ings as his struggles with a hamstring injury seem to be over. They will however be without Mario Lemina, who is out with an abdominal issue.

Spur’s are almost at full strength which is welcome news for Pochettino as his side continue their quest for a top four finish and Champions League glory. Barring Dele Alli who has been out with an injury for a while, Kieran Trippier is likely to miss out with a muscle strain. Ironically, Pochettino will himself be one of the notable absentees as he begins his touchline ban after his encounter with referee Mike Dean.
