Amex Stadium

Punter's Pick

Ordinarily, Tottenham would start this game as huge favourites and be given very short odds. However, with their recent struggles they have been priced quite generously at 10/11 by Bet365. We think this is excellent value for a team that still boasts the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dele Alli and Tottenham should have too much for the hosts. They will be looking to make a statement and bounce back after the Bayern defeat and Brighton look weak on paper, so this should be three points for Spurs.

Brighton welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Amex Stadium to kick off the latest round of Premier League fixtures. Although being at opposite ends of the table, both teams are close to crisis point with Brighton hovering a point above the relegation zone and with Tottenham only winning three out of their ten games in all competitions. Both teams desperately need the three points and it will be an intriguing game with each side coming in off the back of a loss.

Brighton enter this game having gone five games without victory in all competitions. The Seagulls have managed just one Premier League victory all season which was on the opening day against Watford. Their last two games have included a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa in the League Cup and a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea last time out. The obvious issue has been goals with the team managing just two in their last five games and Graham Potter may look to address this in the January transfer window. They have been starting games with their young guns Neal Maupay and Steven Alzate who failed to score against Chelsea. Whether the evergreen Glenn Murray needs to start will be a key decision as his consistency and experience could be the key to unlocking defences and keeping Brighton up.

Tottenham have been the focus of much press attention this week after a 7-2 home defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. A season that started with much promise is now descending into a farce with the team unable to hold on to the leads they establish. Much has been made of their transfer wranglings and inability to lock star players Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose to long-term contracts. But there seems to be more happening under the surface as many players do not look happy on the pitch and some are not playing at the level required. Mauricio Pochettino cut a dejected figure in midweek but this could be the type of game where the team is galvanised to turn things around as they will not want the spotlight to return after a tough few days.

In team news, Brighton have been boosted by the news that Solly March, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Leon Balogun have all returned from injury. The team have been low on resources and these players will be a welcome addition to Graham Potter’s squad. They remain without Leandro Trossard, Shane Duffy and Bernardo whilst Davy Propper is a doubt with a hamstring injury.

Tottenham will be without right-back Serge Aurier who is suspended after his sending off against Southampton. This could be just as well for Spurs after his poor showing against Bayern Munich. The full-back options are further depleted by the on-going injuries to Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso.

In head to heads between these sides, Tottenham have been the dominant team having not lost to their rivals in their last six meetings. You have to go back to the Old First Division back in 1983 to find the last time Brighton won. Spurs were victorious in both games last season with Harry Kane and Erik Lamela scoring in a 2-1 win at the Amex Stadium and Christian Eriksen getting a late winner at home.
