Punter's Pick

Bet365 are offering 7/10 on a Spurs victory, but they may have to wait a while before breaking the deadlock. It may be wise to let the game settle before catching Spurs at slightly improved odds. A 10/3 on the game being a draw at half time and then for Spurs to win looks like an attractive market given the pattern seen for both these teams in recent times.

Tottenham welcome Leicester City to Wembley in a bid to keep their title ambitions alive and secure a fourth straight victory in the league. Leicester will be looking to repeat the trick they have managed against the top teams, having beaten Manchester City, Chelsea and secured a draw away to Liverpool.

Mauricio Pochettino will be glad that Spurs’ blip in going out of the two cup competitions in quick succession hasn’t derailed their Premier League bid. With the big losses of Dele Alli and Harry Kane to injury as well as Heung-Min Son to the Asia Cup, Spurs fans could have been forgiven in thinking that they may struggle for a top four finish, never mind their league ambitions. But the return of Son has had a galvanising effect on the team, with the South Korean scoring crucial late goals in each of their last two victories against Watford and Newcastle. Fernando Llorente has also proven to be an effective target man, allowing the their attacking midfielders such as Son, Lucas Moura and Christian Eriksen to join in attacks.

Leicester have proven to be impressive and poor in equal measure. The aforementioned victories against the champions and Cheslea have not been replicated against teams in and around them in the league. If they had managed this, the Foxes would be sitting much higher in the table. A clear desire to be the underdog and hit the more dominant bigger teams on the counter-attack has proved fruitful, but if they are required to be the aggressor, especially at home, then they have struggled to take the ascendency in games. This has been proven in a winless run that extends to five in all competitions, including four losses. The team has lost to both Southampton and Watford in that time, as well as a humbling FA Cup exit to Newport County. However the draw they have achieved was against Liverpool away in a game that allowed them to sit back and hit the Reds on the counter.

In team news, Tottenham will be without Eric Dier who has a virus as well as Ben Davies. This is in addition to the already injured Harry Kane and Dele Alli. However Spurs have been boosted by the news that their star duo are both back in training with Kane potentially featuring later in the month.

Leicester will be without Marc Albrighton who could be sidelined for the remainder of the season. The Foxes will also be without Daniel Amartey who is sidelined with a broken leg.

In recent head to heads, Spurs have shaded it in terms of success. Goals from Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli earlier in the season secured a 2-0 victory at The King Power Stadium. Last season saw both teams play in a nine goal thriller, which Spurs managed to scrape by the odd goal, despite Leicester leading 3-1 at one stage.

This is a tricky one to pick off the bat, given Leicester’s success against the big teams and Spurs’ recent run. Tottenham certainly haven’t been convincing and required late goals on numerous occasions in the season to sustain their title tilt. With their upcoming game in the Champions League, could this be a reason for Spurs to be slightly more cautious in this game?
