Wembley Stadium

Punter's Pick

The standout fixture of the weekend is undoubtedly Manchester United’s visit to Wembley, where Spurs will be looking to stop a resurgent United from recording their 6th straight victory in all competitions. With many pundits feeling that this will be an entertaining clash, there is value in taking the offer of over 2.5 goals at 8/13 with Bet365. You can also get over 9 corners at the same price of 8/13 in what should be cracking tie.

Many view this as being the sternest test yet for Ole Gunnar Solskjær since taking over at the helm. But the United manager will go in to the game in confident mood, having seen his side despatch all 5 opponents since his interim stint began. More impressive than the results have been the performances, which had all the hallmarks of the great United teams of the past, and was so lacking under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho.

However, Tottenham will feel confident in their own right, having lost only twice in 18 games and coming off the back of a first leg victory in the Carabao Cup against London rivals Chelsea. Pochettino’s men certainly have improved their record and performances against the bigger teams in recent years and go in to this game a cool 10 points ahead of United.

This tie has added significance as Pochettino has been heavily linked with the full time role at United and The Red Devils certainly haven’t done anything to dispel those rumours. But with Solskjær also keen not to be a mere stopgap, this game could be a real indicator as to who could put themselves in to the driving seat to become the head honcho at Old Trafford.

Tottenham are likely to welcome back Hugo Lloris after being rested for the Carabao Cup tie, with news that Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen are also back in training. Eric Dier is still out after appendix surgery with Lucas Moura also a doubt. There are unlikely to be too many changes from the team that played Chelsea, with Spurs opting to play a strong side in that game.

United will bolstered by the news that Paul Pogba is likely to be available for this game after missing the cup game with a leg injury. Eric Bailly however will be out due to suspension with Chris Smalling also nursing an injury.

In their recent meetings the honours have been fairly even when these two have clashed. Prior to their last match, each of the last three seasons has seen the home team win their game until Spurs broke that trend by winning 3-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the season. But this is now a completely different United side, galvanised by the attacking freedom Solskjær has afforded them.
