Punter's Pick

These two have not met in the league for over ten years, so there are no recent results to point to how this game could play out. Tottenham start the game as favourites, but we feel there is value in backing them at odds of 4/7 offered by Bet365. The Lilywhites are showing a turnaround in form and they should have too much for Sheffield United at home. We are also backing Son Heung-min to score any time at 13/10 with the same bookmaker.

Tottenham Hotspur welcome Sheffield United to North London in what should be a tough challenge for the home team against a side currently occupying a top six berth.

Spurs come into this game having won just two of their last seven games in all competitions. The team succumbed to a last minute penalty winner against leaders Liverpool recently and were then involved in another emotional encounter against Everton, where midfielder Andre Gomes suffered a fractured dislocation of the ankle. The injury left many of the Spurs players in shock with Son Heung-min the most clearly affected. Sheffield United would have been closely observing how Spurs reacted to that moment and the conceding of a late goal to Cenk Tosun in the same game, against their next opponents in Red Star. The Lilywhites did show great composure and mental strength in winning their game 4-0 with Son Heung-min scoring a brace and all four goals being scored in the first half to show that there wasn’t a hangover from the events at Goodison Park. Mauricio Pochettino will now look focus back on the Premier League where despite their poor form, a set of favourable upcoming fixtures could see Spurs race up the table.

Sheffield United have been the surprise package of the season with the players embodying the fighting spirit and energy of their manager Chris Wilder. The team come into this game unbeaten in their last four fixtures which have included two draws against Watford and West Ham and a huge 1-0 win over Arsenal and a 3-0 win over Burnley. John Lundstram was the start of that game bagging himself a brace to leave the Yorkshire side sitting pretty in 6th. Much of Sheffield United’s success comes from their defensive prowess where they have built a solid foundation and this has paid dividends as the team has only conceded one goal in their last four games. This always gives them a chance of nicking winners and to at least have a share of the points which has served them well thus far and they will be looking to add another big scalp to their already impressive campaign.

In team news Son Heung-min is available to start for Spurs after his red card against Everton was rescinded. Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela remain out with respective hamstring injuries but Giovani Lo Celso will be pushing for his first league start having scored in the midweek clash against Red Star.

Sheffield United are reportedly assessing minor injuries to various players but manager Chris Wilder failed to elaborate further. Callum Robinson is pushing for a recall to the starting lineup having started all five of Sheffield United’s away games.
