Punter's Pick

Tottenham host Wolverhampton Wanderers as both teams continue their push for a European place. Tottenham are just four points off a Champions League spot with their opponents sitting just one point behind them. Both teams will feel they can go on a run and secure a seat in Europe’s premier competition which should make this an entertaining game.

Tottenham’s form has been patchy of late despite beating Manchester City 2-0 and getting a late victory over Aston Villa. More recently the home side were outplayed by RB Leipzig in what was a peculiar performance as the Germans were allowed to dominate possession and Spurs set up to defend despite being in front of their fans. They ultimately suffered for that philosophy as Timo Werner bagged a crucial away goal to leave their Champions League hopes in the balance. Jose Mourinho was then outgunned by one of his former players when Frank Lampard’s Chelsea beat Spurs 2-1 thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Marcos Alonso. The Liywhite’s again struggled to leave a mark on the game and injuries to key players signals a dangerous time in the season as they have struggled to string passes together and pose a threat up front, often sitting too deep and inviting the pressure on. With a lack of goals in the team those tactics are not posing a threat going the other way and Spurs are at real risk of missing out this season.

Wolves have had another excellent campaign given the size of their squad and the fact that their season started so early due to Europa League commitments. They have continued their march in that competition having beaten Espanyol comfortably at Molineux thanks to Diogo Jota’s hattrick and are on a Premier League run that includes draws against Leicester and Manchester United as well as a 3-0 victory over Norwich last time out. Diogo Jota had almost become the forgotten man amongst their ranks but the Portuguese forward has picked up his goalscoring form of late to add to the threat of Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore. Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping for a strong finish to the season and with most of his key players fit, they will be hoping to sneak into the top four places, especially given the inconsistent form of those around them in the table.

In team news Tottenham remain without their main strike duo in Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. Both could miss the remainder of the season depriving Tottenham of both goals and the ability to get the team up the pitch. Thus far Lucas Moura has struggled up top as the creativity and support isn’t forthcoming from midfield so Dele Alli is likely to be pushed forward to help the pacey frontman.

Wolves will be looking to allow Diogo Jota to support Raul Jimenez with Adama Traore providing the threat on the wings. Jimenez was rested for most of the game against Espanyol but is expected to lead the line in this one. The away side have not reported any new injury concerns and will be able to pick from a strong contingent for this one.

Spurs have been installed as favourites coming into this game but we feel the value actually lies with Wolves. Spurs have been poor in recent games and are struggling to string attacks together, especially since they lost their star strikers Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. Wolves on the other hand have been playing well and have a strong front line which will challenge Tottenham’s defence with a mixture of strength, pace and trickery. Therefore the 2/1 being offered by Bet365 for a Wolves win looks like excellent value as does backing over 2.5 goals at 6/5 with the same bookmaker.
