Punter's Pick

Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha needs to step up and start delivering, and is 3/1 to score anytime with Betfair and open his account for the season. The Eagles look an interesting proposition to get a draw with the benefit of a +1 goal handicap at 11/4 with Bet365 and should be given serious consideration at this price.

Saturday’s evening kick off sees an intriguing clash at the London Stadium, as local rivals West Ham and Crystal Palace go head to head in what could prove to be an entertaining London derby.

West Ham to profit from top six uncertainty?

With both Manchester United and Spurs struggling to get their respective seasons going, and with Chelsea looking like they are going through a transitional period, the stage seems set for a team to upset the traditional top six this campaign. With Leicester City already riding high in third position in the Premier League at the moment, West Ham seem the other side capable of breaking into the top six, currently sitting in an impressive fifth position.

With just one defeat in their first seven league games – an opening day defeat to champions Manchester City, they are also one of the form sides in the Premier League. New signings such as forward Sebastien Haller have slotted in seamlessly to what has become an impressive squad, with plenty of bench strength all over the pitch to cover for injuries or loss or form. The Hammers may not get a better chance than this season for years to come to upset the established order and clinch a place in Europe via a top six league finish.

Palace eyeing top ten finish of their own?

Despite a summer of uncertainty revolving around their talisman Wilfried Zaha, the Eagles have quickly dusted themselves off and started picking up points regularly, with three wins in their last five league games. Despite still finding goals hard to come by – just six in their opening seven league games, a belligerent defence that has only conceded seven goals so far this campaign – four of those in an unexpected first half collapse at Spurs.

Manager Roy Hodgson will be scratching his head thinking about the form of some his forwards, with the likes of Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha looking badly off the pace so far this season. It has been left to the lesser fancied Jordan Ayew to lead the line, but the Ghanian has really been a prolific marksman in the top flight. If Hodgson can get more out his attack, a top ten finish looks nailed on for this season.

Team News

The Hammers were dealt a massive blow last weekend with regular stopper Lukasz Fabianski being ruled out for at least two months with a torn hip muscle after a goal kick against Bournemouth went wrong. Spanish keeper Roberto Jimenez will deputise in his absence and has a chance to make the number 1 shirt his own.Winston Reid remains out with a long term knee problem, joined by Michail Antonio, who is recovering from surgery to his hamstring injury.

For Crystal Palace Connor Wickham could return to the squad for the first time since August following his latest ankle problems. Mamadou Sakho is still struggling with a knock after missing the victory over Norwich City last weekend, although the Eagles are well stocked in central defensive positions.

Fabianski absence to be felt?

West Ham may downplay the absence of their regular keeper, but the influence of the Pole cannot be underestimated – he made more saves than any other keeper in the 2018/19 season. With that in mind Palace’s goal shy attack may sense an opportunity, although the Hammers have plenty of quality of their own in the attacking third. Clashes between these sides are rarely dull and this encounter should be no different, but may end in an entertaining share of the spoils.
